This role is to be based in Yangon, Myanmar.
Position Responsibilities:
- Product & Pricing (40%)
- Lead the design, pricing, and profitability analysis of innovative insurance products.
- Develop and implement pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability.
- Collaborate closely with distribution, marketing, and product teams to align pricing with market needs and sales strategies.
- Partner with the Regional Office to secure approvals for new product launches.
- Proactively work with local regulator to secure product approvals and participate in industry sessions to promote actuarial expertise and knowledge.
- Provide actuarial insights to influence product strategy and new business planning at the senior management level.
- Strategic Projects (20%)
- Closely involved in company’s strategic projects where actuarial expertise is required. Examples of project scope include distribution growth strategy, capital optimization, etc.
- Support the development and execution of company-wide strategies by delivering data-driven recommendations and scenario analyses.
- Ensure alignment between actuarial outputs and broader business objectives, fostering a unified approach to achieving company goals.
- Valuation Reporting and Projects (15%)
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and international standards. Collaborate with local regulatory body on the development of insurance regulations, including local reserve requirement, solvency.
- Work closely with controllers team and Regional Office to ensure accurate reporting of financial statements.
- Support relevant actuarial projections as required by Chief Actuary and/or Chief Financial Officer. Examples of projects are annual experience study, implementation of new local regulations.
- Financial Planning & Analysis (15%)
- Act as a key liaison in actuarial team with FP&A team during regular forecasting process and annual financial planning cycle, including but not limited to analysis on P&L, new business profitability, capital requirement, collaborating closely with controllers team as well as other functions.
- Monitor financial performance and identify potential risks and opportunities in the forecast and recommend actions to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities. Provide strategic financial insights to support business decision-making.
- Team Leadership (10%)
- Support Chief Actuary in mentoring junior onshore & offshore actuaries, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Promote best practices and innovative approaches within the actuarial team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- At least Associate of a recognized actuarial professional body (e.g., SOA, IFoA) with good exam progress towards Fellowship.
- Minimum of 7 years of actuarial experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of valuation, pricing, and FP&A processes.
- Excellent analytical, attention to details, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in actuarial software and tools (e.g., Prophet, Moody’s AXIS)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Experience in Southeast Asia markets is an asset.
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 Standards is beneficial.
