Job Summary:
The Retail Associate will provide customer service to donors and customers in daily operations of the store in an effort to reach preset sales goals. Properly prepare donated items for retail sale. Serving customers and donors is a priority.
Job Description
Essential Functions
Sales
- Keep store well stocked, displayed and clean.
- Provide prompt and accurate checkout while operating a cash register.
- Verify bank deposit and cash drawer at close of business.
- Communicate over/shorts to Accounting and Retail before leaving for the evening.
- Drop bank deposit at the stores assigned bank and be followed by a member of the Goodwill store staff.
- Follow retail dress code for sales area, including wearing a smock.
- Able to perform opening and closing procedures per retail policy.
Donations
- Greet donors promptly and cheerfully to offer assistance and being courteous and appreciative to all donors
- Offer every donor a receipt.
- Be knowledgeable of acceptable donations, decline donations when appropriate.
- Record donations.
- Sort products into specific containers according to sorting procedures.
- Wear personal protective gear.
Processing
- Meet production goals for grading, sorting, hanging, pricing and tagging donated items in preparation for retail sale.
- Keep store stocked in accordance with production goals by transferring saleable items to sales floor.
- Prepare products for shipping in accordance with the standard operating procedure.
- Wear personal protective gear.
All Areas
- Communicate directives and lead staff during the shift.
- Be available to customers and exhibiting a high level of customer service.
- Be at designated work area ready to work by the scheduled time.
- Communicate shipping and transportation concerns to store management
- Willing to work at other stores as needed.
- Be knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as legal requirements, at all times.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Regular, reliable attendance, as defined in Goodwill’s attendance policy.

- Able to communicate effectively with other store employees.
- Able to learn new processes quickly and possesses strong organizational skills
- Able to problem-solve, prioritize and be able to multi-task.
- Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and manage a budget.
- Able to operate cash register.
- Basic computer skills.
