Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Senior Missile Systems Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems.  With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos Defense Systems provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, IT and manufacturing solutions to our customers most technically challenging problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Missile Systems Engineer within the Defense Systems Group, the individual will provide subject matter expertise to a product development team involved with the design and implementation of a Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD) interceptor. The position will have responsibility for guiding the design team in all aspects of the development process to include conceptual/detailed design, systems performance analysis, trade studies, technology maturation, production, and testing. The selected candidate will be one of the primary interfaces with the US Army customer and will also be a key contributor to customer technical relationships.  Additionally, the individual will be a critical member of proposal teams responsible for follow-on business and on contract growth.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate must have strong leadership credentials, good organizational skills, attention to detail and work well as a key member of a team often tasked to be highly responsive and agile in order to satisfy critical warfighter needs.

The candidate must have experience in the following areas:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and at least 15 years of prior relevant experience in the development of missile systems

  • Leading a large and diverse team including suppliers and subcontractors

  • Proven experience managing to and meeting tight schedules

  • Effective communication of information between various functional disciplines as well as strong briefing skill with Sr. Gov’t customers (SES, General Staff) and C level leadership.

  • Strong understanding of missile performance analysis and its application to the execution of system and sub-system trade studies

  • Strong understanding of hardware development, manufacturing, procurement, production, integration, and testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Advanced Technical Knowledge of Missile Systems

  • Expertise in missile systems design, development, testing, and integration.

  • In-depth understanding of missile guidance, propulsion, navigation, and control systems.

  • Proficiency in relevant engineering disciplines such as aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.

  • Experience selecting and implementing multiple seeker technologies

Leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in the development and execution of complex missile system projects.

  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.

  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Problem Solving and Analytical Skills

  • Proven track record of identifying, analyzing, and solving technical challenges in missile system development.

  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Experience selecting and utilizing various simulation and modeling tools for system analysis and optimization.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Experience in interacting with government agencies, industry partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and guidelines governing missile system design and development.

  • Experience in ensuring compliance with safety, security, and environmental requirements.

  • Knowledge of export control regulations and international arms control agreements.

Innovative Thinking and Creativity

  • Ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions to enhance missile system performance, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Experience in conceptualizing and prototyping novel technologies or subsystems for future missile systems.

  • Willingness to challenge conventional wisdom and explore unconventional approaches to problem-solving.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
