KFP Thermoforming Operator- Days

Printpack Rigid is seeking a candidate to fill a Thermoforming Technician position in our Newport News, VA Facility on days. This position will report to the Shift Supervisor and his/her key responsibility is to operate the Thermoforming machine safely and efficiently, in accordance with specifications and quality standards.

Shift Hours: 7am to 7pm
$2.50/hr. shift differential
Ability to train on day shift

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Set up and/or operate equipment (Thermoformers, vacuum lifts, forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, micrometers, dials, calibrated scales, or automated equipment)   

  • Ability to obtain Forklift/Material Handler skill set and certification  

  • Ability to use computer systems such as Microsoft office and Inventory Managing Software 

  • Audit process parameters to ensure the process is within customer specifications. 

  • Ability to learn and safely lock and tag out equipment 

  • Demonstrate an understanding, recognition, and response of all common process defects 

  • Taking/measuring product samples to ensure product is within customer specifications. 

  • Entering and analyzing product quality data to identify if the product is within control and specification 

  • Perform basic operator preventative and daily maintenance to avoid shutdowns. 

  • Perform visual inspections and respond to any defects appropriately  

  • Identify machine and production issues and quickly resolve malfunctions to maintain production schedules. 

  • Read and follow production schematics to produce products in line with design and manufacturing standards. 

  • Ability to communicate closely with online product inspectors when needed. 

  • Operate two thermoforming lines at a time.  

  • Perform thermoforming assistance tasks such as wrapping pallets, using forklift to hang completed material, and transfer product from one department to another 

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot automated equipment. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required: 

  • High School Diploma/GED or minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.  

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification. 

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to wear all required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnet, uniforms, and steel-toed shoes) 

  • Ability to work weekends (36/48 weekly shift), holidays, and overtime as needed. 

  • High level of technical and troubleshooting skills required due to the need to learn to maintain and troubleshoot and maintain automated equipment  

 

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience operating a forklift 

  • Mechanical background  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Previous experience working with Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts. 

  • Previous experience using industry standard tools (pneumatic and electrical)  

  • Previous experience with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. 

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Inventory Managing Software 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position has no supervisory duties.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. 

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to perform the following: bending, lifting, repetitive motions, walking, and squatting.
