PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The AVP, Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies that engage Simon’s retailers and partners, helping ensure consistent branding across all communication channels and improving profitability.  The role also develops and implements plans designed to create and disseminate corporate information or messaging to target audiences internally and externally.  This role is responsible for sourcing Simon’s strongest, most compelling stories from cross functional teams, creating best-in-class content and crafting narratives for both external and internal audiences, and sharing the content across digital channels.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Build and implement B2B communications strategies that ultimately drive profitability through engagement of retailers and partners.  
  • Create and execute a robust corporate communications strategy to proactively and frequently share our company’s noteworthy news and accomplishments from all functions (e.g. Leasing, Development, Marketing, Management, etc.)
  • Collaborate with key cross-functional senior executives to source the most compelling content and priority stories from each department on a regular basis.  This may include joining key decision-making and strategy meetings to collect newsworthy content in a timely manner.
  • Lead the development of high-impact “Simon story” content for emails (e.g. newsletters), B2B websites and social channels (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, etc.).  Craft narratives that are customized for the intended audience (retailers and partners, prospective employees and/or existing employees) and in-line with each channel’s (email, digital, social) best practices.
  • Manage the sharing and/or updating of “Simon story” content across email, B2B website and social channels.  Own community management of Simon’s Corporate LinkedIn, Instagram and any other social channels we engage in corporately.
  • Partner with Human Resources to create more compelling content targeting prospective employees (e.g. Careers landing page, LinkedIn, etc.) and keep it fresh and up to date.

  • In concert with internal PR team, identify thought leadership opportunities (PR driven, pay to play, conferences, podcasts, etc).  Lead development of process to vet interview opportunities, identify appropriate spokespeople, and prepare spokespeople for opportunities.
  • Audit and (re-)build clear efficient and effective processes and procedures to collect and submit Simon stories for Corporate Communications amplification.   
  • Monitor feedback and metrics to continuously improve Corporate Communications effectiveness.
  • Co-manage the Manager, Public Relations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • 8+ years experience in corporate communications and/or public relations, ideally within the real estate, retail or hospitality industries.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and executing complex communications programs with an emphasis on storytelling and integration across digital channels.
  • Strategic and adept at connecting dots to create the most compelling stories.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in leveraging digital and social media platforms for communications.
  • Courage of conviction with the ability to clearly articulate a defensible point of view with company leaders.

The salary range for this position is $86,000 - $198,000.  Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon various factors, including an individual’s skills, experience and qualifications and the geographic location of the job. It is uncommon for an individual to be hired at the top end of the pay range.
