Job Description Summary
The Senior Engineering Manager – Operations & Transformation Leaderfor Steam Services Engineering is a critical member of the Steam Services Engineering leadership team responsible for driving operating rigor, business cadence, resource planning, quality, lean, performance visibility, and continuous improvement across a global engineering organization supporting the full lifecycle of clean combustion and rotating equipment services.
This role serves as the operational leader and chief of staff to the Steam Services Engineering leader for an approximately 400-person global organization. The team is accountable to the Steam Services business line, a business serving our fossil, nuclear and industrial power plant segments & customers.
The role ensures the organization operates with clear priorities, disciplined execution, strong quality culture, and effective lean management systems to deliver safety, quality, delivery, cost, customer value, and business performance.
This leader also plays a central role in advancing two critical transformation priorities for the organization: Engineering 2030 and Steam Services Value Stream Transformations. These efforts are intended to reshape how engineering work is performed, leveraging the latest technology (e.g. AI), where work is executed, what capabilities are needed, and how the organization improves capacity, lead time, and cycle time across the upgrades, parts, and outages value streams.
This leader provides direct leadership for key operations resources, including quality and lean, and partners closely with functional leaders across engineering, business operations, finance, HR, and other Gas Power Engineering teams.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Operating Rhythm and Business Management
- Partner with the Steam Services Engineering leader and staff to establish and drive the long-term operating strategy, annual priorities, and regular management cadences for the organization.
- Lead the organization’s operating system, including monthly, weekly, and daily management routines, performance reviews, action tracking, and leadership follow-up.
- Build and maintain business intelligence dashboards and performance visibility mechanisms to support decision-making across safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, capacity, lead time, cycle time, and customer responsiveness.
- Ensure leadership reviews are well-structured, action-oriented, and grounded in accurate operational data.
Transformation Leadership
- Help shape, coordinate, and drive the execution of Engineering 2030 across Steam Services Engineering through actionable plans, management routines, governance, metrics, and stakeholder alignment across the organization.
- Lead operational coordination and tracking for Steam Services Value Stream Transformations across the upgrades, parts, and outages value streams.
- Partner with value stream leaders and engineering leaders to improve capacity, reduce lead time, reduce cycle time, and remove barriers that limit execution performance.
Demand, Capacity, and Resource Planning
- Lead demand-capacity planning processes for the global engineering organization in partnership with engineering leaders and business operations.
- Help functional leaders prioritize and deploy resources effectively across engineering execution, technical support, and strategic priorities.
- Support productivity planning and performance management aligned with headcount, labor productivity, cost, and financial commitments.
Quality and Lean Leadership
- Provide direct leadership for Steam Services Engineering quality and lean resources, ensuring strong alignment with business priorities and enterprise expectations.
- Drive a strong quality culture across the organization, including process discipline, compliance to standards, prevention mindset, and continuous improvement in engineering execution.
- Lead deployment of lean principles, standard work, leader standard work, daily management, KPI development, problem solving, and waste elimination across the organization.
- Maintain alignment with broader Gas Power and GE Vernova quality and lean expectations, while adapting them effectively to Steam Services Engineering needs.
Cross-Functional Operations Leadership
- Represent Steam Services Engineering in broader Gas Power Engineering operations forums and help translate enterprise operating priorities into functional execution.
- Drive consistent operating practices, management standards, and best-practice sharing across the global organization to strengthen one-team execution.
- Coordinate effectively with partner organizations including generator design, CMPD, product safety, and other engineering and business functions.
- Support escalation management, risk visibility, and cross-functional coordination on key operational and transformation issues affecting delivery, compliance, and customer outcomes.
Communications and Organizational Effectiveness
- Lead the internal communications cadence for the organization, including leadership updates, all-employee content, operating reviews, and other communication mechanisms that align the global team around priorities, performance, and transformation progress.
- Support preparation of executive materials, business updates, and leadership presentations.
People Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to assigned operations, quality, and lean resources and support their development through clear expectations, coaching, feedback, and growth planning.
- Own performance evaluations, development planning, salary actions, and promotion recommendations for direct reports, in line with company processes.
- Build a strong operations team with the capability to support a complex, global engineering organization and major transformation initiatives.
- Role model the GE Vernova Way through visible leadership, accountability, customer focus, lean mindset, quality discipline, and teamwork.
Leadership and Stakeholder Expectations
- Serve as a trusted operating partner to the Steam Services Engineering leader and staff.
- Bring structure, pace, transparency, and follow-through to a complex global organization.
- Help turn strategic transformation priorities into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
- Influence without direct authority across a matrixed environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent experience.
- Significant relevant experience in engineering, engineering operations, business operations, quality, lean, transformation, or a related industrial operating environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading operating rhythms, performance management, or business operations in a global, matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated experience driving lean, quality, continuous improvement, or transformation in an engineering or industrial setting.
- Strong analytical capability with experience using data to drive decisions, improve visibility, and solve operational problems.
- Open to working with tools such as AI, LLM, Prompt Engineering, Agents, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar data visualization and business reporting platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions, businesses, regions, and levels of leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with senior engineering and business leaders.
