Exotic Pets Registered Veterinary Nurse

Location: Southfields Veterinary Specialists

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours/week

Salary: From £28,000, depending on experience

Southfields Veterinary Specialists are recruiting for a talented registered veterinary nurse to support our existing teams in providing exceptional care to the wide variety of patients visiting our exotic service.

You will see an exciting and varied referral and emergency caseload, allowing you to work within an exceptional team and develop your career working alongside our Exotics Service Team Leader, Dominic Byron Chance, BVM BVS MRCVS.

This is a rewarding and challenging role that will require teamwork and dedication to the service and its patients.

As an exciting addition to Southfields in January 2021, our exotics service is looking for a proactive, dedicated, and knowledgeable RVN to support its continued growth.

With the ability to treat a large range of exotic species, including birds, domestic fowl, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, arthropods, fish, and zoo animals, you will work alongside Dominic to establish, implement and evolve working processes in this growing discipline.

You will have access to on-site advanced diagnostic imaging, including MRI, CT, endoscopy, and intra-operative fluoroscopy; in-house radiotherapy treatment and operating theatres, enabling you to utilise your knowledge and experience to support patients requiring investigations and medical and surgical management for a variety of conditions.

You will be required to liaise with all disciplines to facilitate the highest standard of patient care through effective communication from the point of admit through to discharge.

·           A passion for mentoring and training colleagues.

Specific experience/qualification/status/citizenship requirements

You must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with a minimum of 1-year post-registration experience
  • Have experience of working with a range of exotic pets
  • Have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Maintain a professional and caring approach in all aspects of your work.
  • Provide evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

Additional qualifications in exotic species nursing, such as Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Zoo and Exotic Species (APVN), are desirable but not essential
