The opportunity
We are looking for a passionate and proficient research scientist (f/m/d) with expertise in power systems at our Research Center in Mannheim/Germany. In an inter-disciplinary and international environment, you will drive cutting-edge innovation for different complex systems in power grid applications.

How you'll make an impact
You take initiative: Collaborate with a global and inter-disciplinary team of researchers in Hitachi Energy Research to drive the development from concept to MVP and partner with product/software teams to bring solutions to production. You propose novel ideas and concepts for the next next generation of power systems
You collaborate: Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise. Interact with local and global external partners including universities, start-ups, and vendors to integrate diverse perspectives and stakeholder inputs
You investigate: Translate real power system problems into rigorous models and design computational experiments to quantify accuracy and robustness; ensure reproducibility with versioned code and data. Design innovative approaches for grid operation and deliver them as prototypes or advanced concepts
You communicate: Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports. Produce clear design docs and developer-facing examples/ notebooks that enable reuse
Your background
PhD in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Master’s degree with equivalent industry experience
Proven expertise in technical background in one or multiple power systems areas
Demonstrated hands-on power system software tools such as PSCAD, Digsilent PowerFactory, or simila
Strategic thinker pushing the boundaries of power systems operations
Excellent communication skills in English, team player attitude, initiative and creativity
Experience in control room or field operations, experience at DSO/TSO, regulatory body or similar is a plus
Experience in high-level programming (e.g. Python) is a plus
