Through MKS' partnership with Greater Lawrence Technical High School, we are looking for an exceptional Machine Operator 1 who can assist with the following:

Undergraduate Intern / Co-op Program Overview- 

  • Intern/co-op within a functional area of MKS Instruments that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends. 

  • Meaningful work and project assignments 

  • Networking opportunities with peers and executives 

  • Exposure to different divisions of the business 

  • Understanding of MKS Instruments’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

 

Intern/Co-op Term: This is a multi-semester internship/co-op from March 2026 to May/June 2027. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the assignment, excluding the summer of 2026. They are not required to work the summer but are allowed to if they are interested.  

Summary & Objectives:  

MKS Instruments is seeking an exceptional Machine Operator 1 to join the team. In this position, you partner with Manufacturing Operations to machine parts to specifications. In this role, you will report to the Manufacturing Specialist/Operations Supervisor. 

Principal Responsibilities:   

  • Operating a variety of automatic or semi-automatic machines used in the production of the company’s product 

  • Working from process sheets or written/verbal instructions given by supervisor to perform production tasks 

  • Checking and inspecting operation against predetermined tolerances 

Required Skills: 

  • Requires basic reading, writing and addition and subtraction skills  

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: 

  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs 

  • Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination 

  • Occasionally moves/positions objects up to 50 pounds 

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time 

  • Frequently positions self to perform tasks and positions objects below, at, and above shoulder level 

  • Regularly requires manual dexterity and coordination of objects below, at and above shoulder level 

  • Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand 

  • Must be able to exchange accurate information 

  • Operates in a manufacturing environment 

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery 

  • Ability to observe documents and details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) 

  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards including handling mechanical and electrical hardware, high voltage, gas, water, and heat 

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually average 

  • Must be a student at Greater Lawrence Technical High School

 

Compensation and Benefits:  

Hourly Pay Range: $15.00 to $24.53. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.  

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis. 

The application period for the intern/co-op position is estimated to be through the end of March 2026; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates
