Job Description:

Position Overview:

Working under the direction of the Director of Operations the Fresh Category Manager assists the Operations Team monitor and assess Deli, Bakery, Meat, Seafood and Produce departments performance, profitability, procedures and programs at Metcalfe's retail stores.  

Here’s what you’ll do: 

  • Responsible for assigned retail stores to meet and deliver established sales and profitability through merchandising plans, promotional activity and assortment review. 

  • Ensure the successful and consistent implementation of category business plans and merchandising plans in collaboration with department management; plans include the areas of assortment, pricing, promotion and shelf placement. 

  • Participate in the operational execution of retail policies, plans and programs in areas of inventory and asset management, merchandising, facilities maintenance, safety and security. 

  • Monitor and access assigned retail stores performance vs. budgeted goals and objective; analyze and identify opportunities for improvements and assist to develop strategies that position stores to perform at or above budget levels. 

  • Responsible to work with assigned stores to manage and control the location(s) operations to ensure consistency with Company standards, policy and expectations. 

  • Collaborate with internal departments (i.e., Marketing, Merchandising, Promotions, etc.)o support consistent execution of approved advertising plans and store promotions. 

  • Collborate with Store Directors and Department Managers Responsible for providing coaching, training, direction and support to retail department associates.  

  • Instruct and align associates' functions and duties to meet the productivity standards. 

  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best merchandising practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes. 

  • Responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service and hospitality throughout the stores; including complaint resolution with a positive demeanor.

  • Demonstrates passion for the brands, products, services, and solutions offered to guests.

  • Assist in new and re-model store opening, set-up, training and operations

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

 

 

Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • Associate's Degree (Required) Marketing, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Three years' experience in Fresh merchandising or management in a retail setting. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.  

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, project management and analytical skills.  

  • Ability to provide work direction to associates and coordinate team workload.  

  • Ability to drive, develop and execute new programs to create sales and profits for future growth.  

  • Basic knowledge of retail stores and grocery department functions.  

  • Ability to maintain a strong customer focus and a high degree of professionalism when dealing with internal customers and leaders.  

  • Strong proficiency in MS office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.).
