The Role & What You Will Be Doing
Every day, we rise to the challenge to make a difference and here’s how the Medical Advisor role will make an impact:
Strategic Medical Leadership:
- Lead the development and implementation of the medical strategy for specific therapeutic areas or products.
- Provide high-level medical insights to guide the company’s product development, marketing strategies, and lifecycle management.
- Provide affiliate medical advice related medical affairs strategy, planning, and supportive tactics related to Viatris’s products
- Responsible for working with key stakeholders to develop and execute medical affairs plan/activities that supports the strategic operating goals for the Viatris business, which may include post marketing research, investigator-initiated trials, medical education, research grants, medical advisory boards, and scientific communication/publication.
- Provide information on new research directions, ideas, practices in patient care and identify unmet medical needs.
Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Management:
- Establish relationships with clinical and research leaders in their assigned region including, but not limited to, academicians, clinicians, directors of pharmacy and other health care professionals like emerging healthcare professionals, Key Opinion Leaders and key academic institutions and researchers.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with KOLs and other stakeholders in the medical community.
- Engage in meaningful proactive and reactive peer-to-peer discussions with healthcare professionals regarding the respective disease state via scientific exchange.
- Actively participate in Speaker Training, Advisory Boards, Round Table discussions, National and Regional Medical Conferences and internal committee meetings, as needed. Lead scientific discussions, advisory boards, and expert panels to gather insights and influence the therapeutic area.
Clinical Development Support:
- Play a significant role in designing clinical trial protocols, overseeing trial progress, and interpreting clinical data.
- Act as a liaison between the company and clinical investigators, ensuring the integrity and scientific rigor of studies.
- Provide medical support for clinical trials, including protocol development and data interpretation.
Regulatory and Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure that all activities comply with relevant regulations and ethical standards, particularly concerning promotional practices and clinical data dissemination.
- Responsible for consultation, review & approval of medical and scientific content of all relevant activities / promotional materials/ communications, ensuring they meet legal & regulatory requirements and are in line with Viatris’s policies.
Advanced Medical Education and Training:
- Develop and deliver advanced training programs for internal teams, HCPs, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee the planning and execution of medical education events.
- Review, evaluate, and channel information to the appropriate Viatris personnel and provide timely responses to requests regarding product or disease information assuring that all activities and reporting methodologies are compliant with Company and Regional policies.
- Respond to medical information queries if no separate medical information specialist is working in the country.
- Lead medical education initiatives, including training programs for internal teams and external stakeholders. Represent the company at scientific conferences and medical meetings.
- Provides medical expert opinion, interpretation of clinical trials & research across different products.
- Supports generation of publications and expert reports.
- Interact with Healthcare Professionals to develop educational materials (e.g. disease monographs, publications, slides) for educational purposes at academic centers or community-based programs.
- Maintain a current knowledge of published literature in the respective therapeutic area of specialization as well as attend meetings and congresses sponsored by the influential leaders of the respective therapeutic area for educational purposes.
Cross-functional cooperation:
- Utilize expert medical/scientific knowledge in assigned therapeutic area to provide strategic input and medical expertise for new and existing products to marketing and sales staff, contributing to the development of product strategies.
- Collaborate with marketing, regulatory, and clinical teams to ensure alignment of medical strategies with company objectives.
- Prepare medical assessment to support Business Development (BD)
- Provide Viatris/competitive scientific information to facilitate development of marketing/cycle objectives and strategies and enabling evaluation of the practicality and potential of new products and market development.
About Your Skills & Experience
For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
- Preferable MD or PharmD, other life science graduate
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in Medical Affairs organization.
- Must possess knowledge of the Medical Advisor roles and responsibilities and understand compliance within the Standards of Interactions with Healthcare Professionals, promotional laws and regulations, and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
- Nice to have: at least 1,5 years of experience in clinical research or 3 years of experience in marketing or sales organization.
- Experienced in managing projects to completion.
- Demonstrated ability in design, initiation, and reporting of clinical studies as part of an integrated clinical plan
- Able to discuss scientific aspects of product development regulatory issues and also in discussing commercial issues.
- Able to review, evaluate, interpret, and present complex data;
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills including scientific writing skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to influence and succeed through others and to form excellent relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and align with wide range of stakeholders, regionally and cross-functionally.
- Excellent understanding of the regulatory framework & requirements related to products, clinical studies and global drug development
