Job Description

The Sanitation Team Member is responsible for keeping production areas, refrigeration/freezer areas, offices, conference rooms, breakrooms, and restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition to ensure a clean and safe work environment for Team Members and visitors. This position will perform various daily/weekly cleaning tasks, minor repairs, and special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean food production spaces using hot water, hoses, cleaning chemicals, scrub pads, and brushes according to established SOPs.
  • Clean warehouse with hand brooms, electric powered scrubbers, and sweepers to meet company standards.
  • Clean offices (including dusting), break room (including microwaves, refrigerators, and tables) restrooms, and floors (including sweeping and mopping) and replenish paper goods and supplies as needed.
  • Dust fixtures, shelves, and product.
  • Keep floor clear of any dry or liquid debris.
  • Empty trash containers and replace liners.
  • Keep and maintain accurate sweep logs.
  • Clean windows and mirrored surfaces.
  • Perform duties as communicated by FSQA leadership and adhere to cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Keep track of cleaning supplies and replenish as needed. Notify Team Member responsible for purchasing supplies of any impending shortages before supplies are exhausted.
  • Remove and properly dispose of all refuse, recycle, cardboard, compost, and broken pallets.
  • Change or charge batteries in power-operated equipment, including compactor/baler, pallet jacket, power washer, floor buffer and scrubbers, and safety equipment.
  • Report all life safety and fire hazards, along with any other violations of company policy to facility leadership for correction and report all accidents and injuries to Team Leader or facility leadership immediately.
  • Utilize cleaning checklists and adhere to Safety and Master Sanitation Schedule Operating Procedures.
  • Follow established hazardous material safety procedures.
  • Keep department cleaning supplies filled and maintained, and keep all supply shelves clean and stocked. Refill spray bottles or other containers with ready to use chemical solutions.
  • Practice safe use of tools and equipment required by position.
  • Practice proper care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help with any cleaning emergencies that occur in the facility.
  • Comply with all state and federal health and safety codes.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Experience cleaning in the grocery/food industry or food manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Able to work well without direct supervision.
  • Able to operate all necessary equipment
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must adhere to company dress code and standards of production kitchen dress and PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.
     

The wage range for this position is $17.50 - $23.25 Hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers “Whole Benefits".
