Position Summary

The Airend New Product Development (NPD) team is seeking a highly analytical, technically skilled Master’s or PhD‑level Engineering Intern to support advanced modeling, simulation, and data‑automation initiatives for screw compressor research and development. This role provides hands‑on experience in thermodynamic simulation, software development, and data‑driven engineering with direct contributions to new compressor design and performance evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance existing software tools, including Python scripts and numerical models
  • Simulate thermodynamic processes within screw compressors (suction, compression, discharge)
  • Implement multi-chamber and other thermodynamics-based models
  • Calculate key compressor performance metrics such as:
    • Volumetric efficiency
    • Adiabatic efficiency
  • Integrate simulation platforms (e.g., MATLAB, Scorg, or custom codes) with Python
  • Automate the generation of large-scale data sets (e.g., 24,000+ data points)
  • Support model development for machine learning training and predictive analytics
  • Validate all developed software tools using experimental data
  • Ensure simulation accuracy within acceptable engineering tolerances
  • Assist in cross-checking simulated vs. physical test results

What You Will Learn / Gain
