Job Details:

Mercer University School of Law - Law Library is searching for a Library Assistant III/Circulation Manager.


 

Responsibilities:

The Library Assistant III manages circulation services and supervises staff in a team-based environment by coordinating circulation services for all library users.

The responsibilities include managing all aspects of circulation and reserve services, including patron assistance, handling user fees as appropriate, interlibrary loan, document delivery, and course reserves. The Library Assistant III, who reports to the law library director, works collaboratively with Acquisitions, Systems, and Reference staff.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college and at least one year of directly relevant library experience is required. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered with at least one year of that experience being directly relevant library experience and the rest customer service and/or administrative experience. Candidates with a bachelor's degree are highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to interact effectively with patrons and colleagues in person, by phone, and by email to provide effective communication.

  • Knows how to use office equipment, including photocopiers, printers, scanners, and microfiche readers to assist patrons. Works with university libraries to handle meeScan self-checkout software.

  • Knowledge of an integrated library system, preferably ExLibris/Alma, performs higher level tasks to create lists, produce reports, update records, etc., and suggest system enhancements to improve department workflow and patron service.

  • Knows how to search OCLC to process interlibrary loan requests.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare letters, reports, and other documents.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage a variety of circulation operations to ensure effective workflow.

  • Ability to hire, schedule, train, and supervise student assistants and evaluate their work to ensure effective workflow.

  • Ability to perform basic bookkeeping with respect to student payroll information.

  • Ability to train and teach staff to use library systems and staff the circulation desk.

  • Ability to lift boxes of books (up to 30 pounds), retrieve books from high or low shelves, and push full book carts (50-75 pounds) on a regular basis with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to use independent judgment to set priorities and make appropriate decisions to ensure efficient workflow and produce accurate, well-organized work.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work cooperatively and creatively with colleagues to maintain a positive work environment.
