Job Summary:

The Tax Associate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, gaining exposure to various aspects of tax services including corporate tax compliance, multi-state withholding unemployment tax, indirect property and business taxes along with tax planning and strategy. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws, regulations and filing requirements as well as recording, monitoring, and resolving tax notices with government agencies and validating all agency. Must have the ability to analyze and reconcile tax accounts and provide timely adjustments to tax reports to ensure accurate tax filings, minimizing assessments and penalties, work independently when necessary and be an abstract thinker. Will perform detailed jurisdictional reconciliations for internal and external audits. Identify drivers for abnormalities, then research, analyze, and document their work proposing corrective actions. Interface with other areas of the Accounting and Finance department, and business partners throughout the organization. Remain current on legislation and regulatory rulings impacting multiple areas of tax. Provide ideas, solutions, and tools to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of tax team's process including process documentation and tax strategies and opportunities for savings or maximization of tax credits and deductions. Perform ad hoc duties as needed including creating ad-hoc reporting to support internal and external functions. Cross train with other areas of tax department staff.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Bi-weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and year end payroll reporting * Maintain a calendar of payroll tax return filings across all federal state and local jurisdictions and ensure timely filing * Prepare bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly multistate payroll filings. * Review and perform analysis of payroll withholding reports to determine correct due date and amount for remittance. Use judgment to review reports for reasonableness as compared to prior periods and knowledge of data. * Prepare, obtain authorizations and remit state taxes payments. * Monitor state tax websites. Communicate with state and local jurisdictions to ensure that remits have processed * Reconcile tax accounts and maintain accurate records of tax assets and liabilities are recorded correctly. * Review tax notices from multiple state and local jurisdictions. Reconcile/resolve any discrepancies. Works independently with state and local officials and staff where applicable to resolve. * Prepare and provides written status updates to management. * Research and analyze tax positions to ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations Corporate and Indirect Tax Compliance Responsibilities * Work across the organization to obtain information necessary to prepare assigned sections of the annual corporate tax work papers and return preparation. *Perform research of tax compliance related matters to apply to Wellstar transactions in preparing Wellstar businesses tax returns and related forms as applicable. * Prepare documentation to support tax positions and communicate findings to management. * Prepare, process and file business license forms for Wellstar business sites, including coordination with operational areas as necessary, to request, modify or close business licenses as applicable. Coordinate with government entities to ensure business licenses are maintained in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. * Maintain timely updated internal business license software records. * Prepare and ensure Personal Property Tax Returns across multiple jurisdictions are timely and accurately completed. *Review, research and prepare property tax assessment appeals as applicable. *Prepare indirect tax payments to various taxing authorities. *Participates and supports audits by various state and local taxing authorities. by coordinating items needed for audit. Researching and understanding applicable laws and regulations and applying this knowledge to work product. Other Duties as Assigned * Prepare interim and year end audit schedules as applicable. * Complete Ad Hoc reports and assignments. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Masters Accounting-Preferred or Bachelors Accounting

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

    Minimum 2 years if Masters degree 0-2 year's work experience Required Minimum 2 years If Bachelors degree 2 years work experience and accounting course work towards CPA Required
