POSITION SUMMARY:

As a SQL Database Developer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our product database. Your responsibilities will encompass managing product attribute information, pricing, and lead time data within our database systems. Additionally, you’ll ensure the cleanliness and optimal functionality of the database. You will collaborate directly with a small team of web developers within the Marketing/Communications dept., as well as interact with Thomson engineers and product owners in the broader company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and Maintain Databases:

  Create stable, reliable, and effective databases that align with the company’s needs.

  Optimize and maintain existing legacy systems to ensure smooth operations.

  Modify databases based on requests and perform thorough testing.

• Data Integrity and Quality:

  Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity within the product database.

  Regularly validate and verify product attribute information, pricing, and lead time data.

  Implement data quality control initiatives to maintain high-quality data.

• Database Performance and Optimization:

  Monitor database performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.

  Collaborate with developers to enhance applications and establish best practices.

  Troubleshoot and resolve database usage issues and malfunctions promptly.

• Communication and Collaboration:

  Work closely with the development team to ensure system consistency.

  Communicate effectively with other internal stakeholders, including product line managers, product line specialists, and engineering associates.

• Technical Support and Documentation:

  Provide technical support to users regarding database-related queries.

  Develop technical manuals and training materials for database management.

  Ensure all database programs meet company standards and performance requirements for product information delivery through our external website.

• Research and Innovation:

  Stay informed about new database products, services, and protocols.

  Suggest improvements and innovations to enhance the database infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Technical skills:

• 6+ years of experience in SQL and database design and development (T-SQL preferred).
• 2+ years of experience conducting data analysis and reporting using SQL, Excel, Power BI, or other data tools/languages.
• Strong information management and system architecture skills – Able to structure code to be clean, maintainable, testable, and performant.
• Understanding of web services and service-oriented architecture.
• Able to collect, document, and organize large amounts of data efficiently.
• Project management and/or business analyst experience.
• Experience and comfortability with version control (Git preferred).
• Able to distill high-level business requirements into actionable technical requirements.
• Able to seek out and gather missing requirements from various stakeholders.
• Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
• Able to work during Eastern or Central time zone business hours.
• MS Office experience (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).

Preferred:

• Interest in or experience with newer database technologies such as NoSQL.
• Familiarity with Powershell and/or Python for data analysis and integrity testing.
• Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, etc).
• Mechanical engineering experience and high-level understanding of electromechanical motion control products.
• Experience developing within CI/CD pipelines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• BS degree in Information Systems or Computer Engineering/Science or equivalent experience. 
• Experience working within a development team, contributing to software development projects related to online internet communications, web management, and associated technologies.
• Experience collaborating with diverse teams – often in a virtual setting across diverse geographies and cultures.
