This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will participate in the development and verification of avionics software components on Blue Origin rocket engines. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of re-usable, safety-critical component development and delivery. This hands-on position requires experience in developing, validating, and verifying safety-critical embedded systems.  Strong appreciation for the value of processes and compliance to standards is a must. Together, our teams deliver the critical software that monitors and controls fully autonomous rocket engines.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and development of robust test cases and procedures for verification of safety-critical, real-time embedded avionics software powering state-of-the-art rocket engines.
  • Participation in code reviews and cross-team peer reviews to ensure software quality and adherence to standards.
  • Collaboration with hardware, systems, and quality assurance teams to align software functionality with requirements and perform hardware integration.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting software issues to improve performance and reliability.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry safety and certification standards for critical systems.
  • Mentoring junior team members and leading small development teams.
  • Continuously learning and integrating new technologies and methodologies to enhance development processes and product capabilities. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience testing real-time software systems (safety-critical embedded avionics a plus).
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving at the hardware/software interface.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C/C++ and Python.
  • A genuine curiosity and eagerness to delve into the complexities of safety-critical embedded systems and processes.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
  • Experience and/or interest leading and managing a small team.
  • Applied experience with real-time operating systems and/or bare-metal embedded systems.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of standards such as DO-178.
  • Familiarity with coding standards such as MISRA.
  • Experience with Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) testing and/or automated test frameworks.
  • Experience using artifact management tools such as DOORs, Jama. 
  • Proficiency with Rust.

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $115,290-$161,406
