WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX seeks a Product Designer passionate about creating patterns, systems, and fundamental user experiences. As an onX Product Designer, you'll evolve and scale our shared experiences, enabling our vertical teams to craft simple, intuitive, and valuable products for our Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish businesses. Join a dynamic, growing company focused on helping customers get outside for off-pavement adventures while creating business impact. Your work will create customer value while elevating the quality and consistency of the user experience. This position reports to the Sr. Director of UX.

As an onX Product Designer, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, considering complex use cases and collaborating with Engineering and Product Management to define and improve user experience patterns, components, and guidelines.
  • Advocate for quality throughout product development and maintain a broad view of the product to identify patterns, components, and opportunities for consistency, efficiency, and quality.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of onX product strategy, vision, and goals and contribute to team vision, strategy, and roadmaps influencing future foundational product user experience direction.
  • Use data to inform user experience (UX) work and measure its success, seeking customer insights to understand needs and make informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers to define research questions and problems and create prototypes to gather evaluative feedback efficiently.
  • Understand the design system's role within our UX and advocate for its use. Ensure consistency and collaborate with the design system team to contribute where we have gaps.
  • Create clear design documentation to support other product teams' adoption of shared user experiences incorporating Product Management and Engineering perspectives.
  • Drive excellence in UX design work through UI craft, interaction details, and UX best practices, and stay informed about industry products and interaction patterns.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Human Centered Design, User Experience Design or equivalent experience. 
  • A minimum of four (4) years of user experience design experience is required.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with contemporary software design tools and technologies such as Figma, Sketch, or equivalent
  • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX. 
  • This position requires a portfolio of case studies or work samples highlighting your product design experience. Applications must have this to be considered.
  • Must be available for travel to a corporate office in Montana bi-annually. 

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience proactively working in a remote and distributed team.
  • Previous experience designing within shared user experience or platform product teams, and contributing to enterprise design systems.
  • Experience building user experiences for multiple products across various clients.
  • Passion for off-pavement pursuits and activities.
  • User Experience Design experience that includes mapping, navigation, geospatial applications, and or outdoor recreation is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to find solutions for unstructured problems.
  • Experience leading and operating in a startup culture–embracing rapid iteration, experimentation, and a growth mindset.

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub”.

  • Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time, this is a great option.
  • Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure. 
    • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 
  • Connection Hubs: onX’s Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
    • Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $120,000 to $140,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
