Job Title:

Patient Placement Coordinator - Mississippi Med-Com - Full-Time/ Part-Time

Job Summary:

To coordinate the daily patient placement needs for all admissions and observation cases from all access points, including physicians’ offices, day surgery, the emergency department, radiology, labor and delivery, and other hospitals, and to complete related duties associated with patient placement and the pre-admission process.

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of patient registration procedures and documentation; knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation; knowledge of physician orders (PO), medical terminology, patient care charts, and medical histories; skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications; skill in preparing and maintaining patient records; strong interpersonal and customer service skills; and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates patient placement with nursing staff according to departmental guidelines.
  • Reviews bed availability daily and notifies appropriate personnel when planned admissions exceed bed capacity.
  • Facilitates review of patient assignments and discharges to avoid placing patients off service unless necessary, while maintaining fair distribution of patient access.
  • Provides physicians and other healthcare team members with information regarding delays as needed.
  • Coordinates inter-facility transfers in compliance with EMTALA and hospital guidelines, including transfers from emergency departments and other points of entry.
  • Facilitates patient and information flow by directing patients to correct locations, arranging patient transport, answering incoming telephone calls, and providing clerical support.
  • Collaborates in the training of new employees and serves as the work lead for the patient services area of the clinic as directed.
  • Provides clear and concise reporting.
