Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

Reporting into the Senior Vice President, Operations, this strategic role will support project management across a variety of high-profile projects that span warehouses, warehouse automation and logistics operations.  This position will be responsible for directing and managing complex, large-scale programs and projects from beginning to end including development of delivery strategies, planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource management, risk/issue identification and resolution, and reporting.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with internal technical teams and operational stakeholders to support scope, engineering, IT and other design work. 
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, ranging from smaller-scale renovations to large ($200M+) new facilities.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision from senior leadership. Identify resource requirements including people, organizations, financial, hardware, software and services for multiple projects or a program. Provide program management direction and leadership to other project leaders within workstreams.
  • Develop comprehensive reports, specifications, and technical analyses to outline design requirements, necessary equipment, and services for expansion and remodel projects.  Highly analytical and process oriented, the candidate will be fluent in project management tracking and status reporting.
  • Lead discovery activities with business partners at all levels to understand business objectives, assumptions and constraints. Prepare analysis and facilitate approach for capturing large-scale and complex requirements. Apply extensive automation and warehouse industry knowledge, solution knowledge and requirement techniques to develop a macro view of current and target processes and systems. Form opinions, develop models and facilitate interaction, which lead to solutions that bridge the gap between current and target state.
  • Conduct facility audits, evaluate infrastructure, safety, and security issues.  Recommend actionable solutions for improvements.
  • Evaluate project success through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focused on safety, quality, cost, scheduling, and goals.
  • Mentor and guide project teams (developers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Working with project leads, ensure workstreams meet deadlines and standards, addressing under-performance issues promptly.
  • Resolve design, scheduling, and execution conflicts between internal and external teams.
  • Maintain and operate information systems for efficient scheduling and contract work documentation.
  • Review and analyze external project team proposals for cost and time changes, ensuring proper evaluation and incorporation of approved changes. Facilitate and communicate resolution to complex, strategic issues with executive level management. Establish documentation requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Provide input into development and delivery of training. Identify and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Develop comprehensive communications plans for key projects and programs. Respond to customer and business partner requests for service. Prepare and deliver effective, timely, meaningful communications throughout the project lifecycle to project participants, senior leadership, and the organization. Define project success criteria and disseminate these to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Communicate expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely, consistent, and meaningful manner. Build, develop, and grow internal and external business relationships.


 Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience collaborating across both technical and non-technical teams.
  • 10+ years of experience in program or project management.  Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional teams and lead without authority.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing, analyzing, and presenting results to senior leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree, with MS or MBA, preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale +$100M projects, preferably in the logistics, warehousing and automation space.
  • Proven experience in implementing scalable processes and driving automation or standardization efforts.
  • Experience in defining program requirements and leveraging data and metrics to identify areas for improvement.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $122,500.00.
