Senior Product Designer - Small Business Banking

Sydney based - Permanent - Full-Time - 50-50 office attendance

Do work that matters

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join the Small Business Banking team, with a focus on Virtual Relationship Manager, a generative AI experience that acts as a trusted companion for small business customers, helping them manage their banking and business finances.

This role sits firmly in the AI space, and we’re looking for someone who is passionate about applying emerging technologies in meaningful ways, both in the customer experience and in how we design and deliver. You’ll be excited by the possibilities of generative AI, curious about what’s next, and comfortable experimenting with new tools and methodologies to push the craft of design forward.

This is a hands-on product design role, embedded in a cross-functional squad. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deeply understand customer and business problems, explore opportunities, and deliver outcomes that improve customer experiences and commercial performance.

You’ll lead design from early discovery through to delivery, balancing strategic thinking with practical execution.

Reporting to the Experience Chapter Lead, you’ll be part of the Business Banking Design Chapter, a supportive design community where 40+ designers share craft, insight, and expertise.

This role suits someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys shaping direction, and is motivated by seeing their work make a measurable impact.

You’ll thrive here if you’re energised by complex products and systems, enjoy tackling tough challenges, and can thoughtfully influence and challenge stakeholders to reach the best outcomes for our customers.

Key responsibilities

Lead end-to-end product design, from problem discovery through to solution delivery in a complex environment.

Partner closely with product managers and engineers to frame problems, explore opportunities, and define outcomes.

Define, plan, and conduct discovery activities such as user research, interviews, testing, and data-informed exploration to uncover insights and validate direction.

Translate insights into clear design concepts, experience flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-quality UI that support delivery.

Iterate designs based on feedback, testing, and learnings, balancing user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.

Contribute to product strategy by articulating experience vision, identifying opportunities, and influencing prioritisation.

Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across product, engineering, operations, and design to build alignment and momentum.

Work within CBA’s design system to deliver consistent, accessible experiences, and provide feedback to system teams where gaps or opportunities are identified.

Champion strong design practice, customer-centred thinking, and continuous learning within the squad.

What you will bring

Proven experience delivering end-to-end product design in a cross-functional product team.

Strong skills in discovery, problem framing, and translating insights into meaningful product outcomes.

Experience conducting and synthesising user research using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods.

Confidence designing complex workflows, information architecture, and interactions.

Ability to work through ambiguity and help teams move from uncertainty to clarity.

Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority.

Experience working within a design system and applying patterns pragmatically to support delivery.

Proficiency in interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, and testing methodologies.

Comfort working autonomously in an evolving environment.
