The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery is currently seeking applicants to fill full-time Coke Handler position at our Carson, CA locations. As a Coke Handler, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient removal of coke deposits from delayed coker units within our refinery. This position is essential to maintaining continuous operations and minimizing unit downtime. You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-risk environment that requires attention to detail, strong mechanical skills, and a commitment to safety. May have to work in small and confined spaces. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also successfully complete training and participate in continuous random drug and alcohol screenings. Successful candidates will have a solid understanding of physical science, chemistry and mathematics, including algebra; a passing score on pre-employment test including mechanical aptitude, reading and mathematics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Certificate in Process Technology or Associate degree in Mathematics, Science, technical/chemical, or a related discipline, or successful completion of a 2-year Technical Certification program in related field required and/or candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience working as a process operator in the petrochemical or industrial (manufacturing, powerplant, etc.) industry required.
• Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
• Military experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces. Operate decoking systems and associated high-pressure equipment to safely clean coke drums.

Schedule: Coke handlers work 12 hour rotating shift schedules (day and night) and must be available for overtime and often work holidays.

Pay and Benefits: Coke Handler rate is $46.34/hour. Marathon has highly competitive benefits including retirement and medical. These are represented positions within the refinery.
