The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking Strategic Asset Allocation and Client Relations Co-op students/Interns for the Fall 2026 work term (September to December).

Strategic Asset Allocation & Client Relations Co-op/Interns will work in the Investment Strategy & Risk department, gaining hands-on experience by applying academic knowledge in a professional setting. The role involves conducting research across a broad range of investment topics, including capital markets, investment strategies, performance, and investment products and support the preparation of client reports, presentations and materials for client meetings.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

Investment Strategy & Risk is responsible for setting, implementing and monitoring clients’ investment strategies by working closely with clients, management and asset classes. The department comprises 4 branches: Strategic Asset Allocation, Total Fund Management, Investment Risk and Growth and Investment Solutions.

The Strategic Asset Allocation team consists of three major workstreams. The ALM workstream assists clients with developing tailored investment policies that achieve investment objectives consistent with their investment philosophies, funding policies and risk tolerances. The Global Macro workstream conducts research and models relevant macroeconomic developments, including assessment of the current business cycle dynamics and research of emerging economic or financial trends, opportunities, and risks. The Client Relations workstream’s focus is on being clients’ trusted advisors by building long-term relationships and exceeding clients’ expectations. Successful candidates will gain valuable exposure to all three workstreams while working on the SAA team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Support the team in the development of clients’ asset liability studies, strategic asset allocation, and investment policy recommendations to ensure that clients’ investment strategies and policies are appropriate and prudent given the nature of the funds, their underlying liabilities, and unique characteristics or circumstances

  • Support the management of BCI’s product shelf to ensure a client-focused rationale for each pooled fund

  • Assist with the update of long-term capital market assumptions, economic scenarios and simulations

  • Proactively ensure that BCI exceeds our clients’ service expectations

  • Conduct independent research and prepare reports/presentations on a wide range of investment topics for client meetings and for internal staff

  • Develop a strong understanding of client needs and the specific investment objectives for various institutional investors (e.g., pensions, insurance, endowment)

  • Develop client-ready responses to their requests – understand individual client needs/concerns and be able to tailor a response

  • Assist with the coordination of client meetings, as well as organizing internal resources’ participation and attendance at client events

  • Assist with client education by producing written materials and educational presentations

  • Actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies and participates in BCI’s business continuity plan

  • Ad-hoc projects and tasks assigned by the team

  • Has relevant prior co-op experience

  • Preference will be given to students who have shown initiative and a passion for the investment industry

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Foundational knowledge of business, finance, and investment management

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of professionalism with strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

  • Interest in finance, economics, and investment management, with a strong work ethic, commitment to ethical standards, and eagerness to learn

  • Strong time management and project management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

  • Experience with Power BI is an asset, but not required

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option of working one day per week from home. Please note that some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
