Materion is looking to hire a Master Planner at our Reading PA facility. As a Master Planner you will be responsible for developing and executing demand, production and inventory plans that will enable the organization to meet sales and service objectives. Collaboration with other members of the Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Customer Service is paramount to achieve these sales and service objectives. Maintains close communications with manufacturing regarding manpower/equipment requirements and production priorities. Manages buffer, non-buffer and WIP inventories and related lead times for meeting desired customer service and inventory goals. Will be involved in the creation and maintenance of the detailed production schedule that achieves service, cost, and inventory targets. Communicates order status, lead time and capacity guidelines to Customer Service Representatives. Monitors, communicates and resolves SAP accuracy issues with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering and Data Administration personnel to ensure SAP system accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and maintains all production orders and/or firm planned requirements from creation through completion.

  • Maintains and Monitors demand loading to ensure capacity overloads do not occur and overload situations are addressed.

  • Establishes production schedules that balance production resources, support customer requirements and meet company inventory objectives.

  • Monitor raw material inventory and work with purchasing manager to ensure there is always enough raw material on order.

  • Manage prep/stock orders to ensure raw material is ready for bonding.

  • Match the input material for bonded coils to maximize yield with the existing coil weights.

  • Schedule orders for bonding and post a bonding schedule and communicate with operations and operators.

  • Schedule orders to go to the external vendor for intermediate processing, also track the orders for yield and traceability. Update purchase requisitions and get updated purchase orders from purchasing.

  • Monitor outsourced vendor material and communicate to the external vendor on an ongoing basis.

  • Schedule finished material to be slit at outside vendor. Update the purchase requisitions and get an updated purchase order from purchasing.

  • Adjust orders for slitting loss at vendor.

  • Update the excel files for scheduling meetings and to support the commercial team with meetings with final customer.

  • Track the orders in WIP for yield daily and adjust the amount of WIP for unforeseen quality losses.

  • Communicate any changes of sales orders to the appropriate CSR.

  • Track output at key work centers and post daily and weekly goal tracking at these work centers.

  • Update the dashboard daily and distribute to operations to review work center output.

  • Work with operations to ensure that work centers are not overloaded, and bottlenecks are worked efficiently.

  • Participate in manufacturing production meetings to review schedules and issues with equipment, vendors, raw material, capacity and staffing.

  • Monitor unapplied material reports to identify potential late starts, required reschedules and to ensure orders are started on time.

  • Monitors MRP exception messages daily and address situations with manufacturing that may require rescheduling/cancellation of production orders.

  • Update work center calendars, loading parameters, queue time values and perform queue time reviews. Review/finalize proposed queue time changes with manufacturing.

  • Perform planning related responsibilities involving cycle counts and physical inventories.

  • Perform periodic inventory adjustments to ensure inventory accuracy.

  • Publish monthly and weekly reports of key metrics.

  • Work with quality and operations to ensure that material that is put on hold is dispositioned quickly and moved back into the schedule.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers regarding order status and lead times.

  • Assist in defining, implementing, maintaining and improving manufacturing systems (Example: SAP, Lean Methods) necessary to support internal and external needs.

  • Contribute to a culture of safety and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (4 Year) and at least 3 years of planning/scheduling experience within a manufacturing environment utilizing an ERP based software.  OR A bachelor's degree (4 Year) specific to Supply Chain Management. OR A minimum of (5) years of manufacturing experience in the specialty metals industry with direct hands on experience with SAP software.

  • SAP software and experience working in the specialty metals industry a plus.

  • ASCM (APICS) CPIM/CSCP certification preferred

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Hands-on experience and working knowledge of MRP, Capacity Planning, Demand Management and Inventory Management is highly desirable.

  • Must be customer focused and demonstrate the ability to understand customer needs and requirements.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical abilities

  • Proven track record of successful development and implementation of innovative ideas with demonstrated business results.

  • Strong result’s orientation. Prioritizes work to maximize bottom line business impact. Requires minimal supervision.
