1Major Job Responsibilities
Technical Engineering Review
Analyzes engineering designs of minor development applications including but not limited to Site Plans, Part Lot Control, Consent, Minor Variance and Niagara Escarpment Permits in accordance with Town Engineering Standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Analyzes lot grading and drainage designs for Building Permits in accordance with Town Engineering Standards and issues with approval of the same to the Building Division.
Prepares written memos and letters to the Planning Department, Building Department and/or the applicant summarizing Development Engineering’s review of various minor development applications including but not limited to Building Permits, Site Plans, Part Lot Control, Consent, Minor Variance and Niagara Escarpment Permits to recommend engineering approval and/or to request revisions to engineering designs.
Customer Service
Provides front-line customer service to the public and to internal and external stakeholders regarding engineering issues in new subdivisions.
Liaises with regulatory agencies (i.e. Region of Halton, Conservation Halton, Niagara Escarpment Commission) in order to resolve engineering issues.
Builds and maintains good working relationships with regulatory agencies and the development industry.
Investigates engineering-related concerns/complaints associated with development applications, recommends corrective action, and follows up until the matter is resolved.
Entrance, Culvert and Road Occupancy Permits
Reviews and Coordinates submission requirements for the above-noted permit applications including circulation internally and to regulatory agencies.
Recommends approval of Entrance, Culvert and Road Occupancy Permits.
Other Duties
Resolves day-to-day issues within established procedures and through guidance from supervisor and other peers.
Performs periodic site inspections, meeting with homeowners and consultants as needed, to resolve complaints.
Provides input into the Town’s Engineering and Parks Standards Manual and internal processes and procedures and assists with updates to the same.
Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives
Education and Experience
Three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Civil/Environmental Engineering Technology; Three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (co-op option) is preferred.
One (1) year of municipal design or construction experience.
Three (3) years of municipal engineering review experience for development applications including preparation of conditions of approval is preferred.
Detailed design experience of municipal infrastructure for development projects is an asset.
Eligible for membership as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation in good standing with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT) is preferred.
Knowledge of the design of storm sewers and grading.
Familiarity with Provincial, Municipal and other relevant industry standards/policies and modern construction practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with AutoCAD, CSDC AMANDA, and GIS platforms.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Strong organizational, record keeping and time management skills.
Ability to work well independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to meet conflicting deadlines and multiple project assignments.
Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; use of a personal vehicle.
Knowledge of the Milton community is an asset
