Role:
The Pharmacy Technician assists in providing pharmacy services to the patients of the Organization, working under the direct supervision of a Florida Licensed Pharmacist within the guidelines of the Florida State Law.

Qualifications:                                                   

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Registration with the state board of pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (or Registered Pharmacist Intern)
  • One (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred
  • Experience of training in the use of aseptic technique in the preparation of sterile products preferred
  • Ability to work shift hours
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: ability to be tactful and understanding in contacts with patient/families, physicians, volunteers and other staff
  • Good communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Highly organized and precise
  • Analytical and thorough in work
  • Works under moderate supervision exercising a reasonable degree of discretion and independent judgment

  • Assist in assuring pharmacy work areas are kept clean and orderly.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares prescriptions, assists with entry of prescription information into the computer system, obtains bulk medication from stock counts out medications, packages and labels prescriptions, and returns bulk medications to stock shelves.
  • Prepares sterile products, obtains required products and supplies from inventory, and prepares compounding injectable medications using appropriate sterile technique in a laminar flow hood.  Labels the compounded medications and packaging for delivery.
  • Assists with stocking Pharmacy Robot with supplies and stocking medications under the supervision of a Pharmacist.  Restocks prescription vials, bottles, and supplies.
  • Assists with coordinating delivery of prescriptions and sterile products through courier service, UPS, volunteers or hospice staff.  Assists with maintaining tracking system for these deliveries.
  • Answers all incoming telephone calls and screens for appropriate routing or handling of call.
  • Assists in retrieval of refills from automated prescription line.          
  • Assists in preparation of orders; checking in orders, stocking shelves, handling drug recalls and returns. Checks for outdated medications each month, removes outdated medications from inventory, and fills out appropriate report.
  • Assists with management of computer master files and maintains updated prices in the computer system(s), ensuring security and confidentiality of all data collected and contained within the department.
  • Assists with data entry for maintaining up to date medication profiles and with data entry of patient information for newly admitted patients.
  • Assists with replenishment of automated dispensing machines located at the Hospice Houses
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
