What you'll do...
Walmart Global Technology is looking for a Senior Taxonomist who is hyper-intelligent, detail-oriented person with structured data experience and has experience with classification, metadata models, & attribution.
About Team
The Global Catalog Team has one of the world's largest product taxonomies that is composed of team of top-notch data scientists, engineers and product managers in creating THE next-generation GLOBAL product taxonomy.
What you'll do
Assist with taxonomy and categorization build-out efforts, including development, deployment, and maintenance
Create metadata for both soccer cleats and boat cleats; bed sheets and dryer sheets and explain to external stakeholders the reasons for your decisions.
Interact with internal stakeholders, including product managers and research specialists, to ensure that the taxonomies being built meet end-user needs
Become a power user of our internally developed tools to accelerate the development of our structured data efforts
Understand how classification is affected by differences within one language and between others
Serve as a proactive feedback loop to the research and product teams, improving internal taxonomical structures, machine learning models, as well as the processes used to build and maintain our taxonomies
What you'll bring
There is no specific requirement for a number of years of work experience, but mastery of taxonomy and metadata best practices is mandatory.
Intermediate to expert level of Microsoft Excel, and ability to ramp up quickly on unique software.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, structured thinker
Work experience that has risen to the level of leading independent projects.
Mastery of taking different concepts and breaking them down into schemas fit to purpose.
Ability to make independent decisions and represent taxonomy as a whole to external groups.
Ability to work with people from different backgrounds, ages, and life experiences.
Strong teamwork, verbal, and written communication skills that convey diplomatic and flexible principles
Experience with retail product data management
Preferred Qualifications:
A degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent is a plus, but not required.
Experience creating, implementing, and maintaining taxonomies, thesauri, or similar structured data a huge plus
Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
Knowledge of agile workflows (JIRA, Scrum) is a plus.
Deep knowledge of any retail assortment is a plus.
A sense of humor helps tremendously.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
