Red Hat is offering a 2026 Apprenticeship opportunity for fresh graduates with strong Java and JEE skills to join the Global Support Services (GSS) team as Middleware Engineer Apprentices, supporting Red Hat’s enterprise middleware product suite. The GSS team supports enterprise customers by resolving complex technical issues and delivering high-level technical support and sustaining engineering services to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs. The apprenticeship will be conducted in-office for a duration of up to six months.
During the program, apprentices will receive hands-on training on Red Hat technologies such as OpenShift, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and middleware products including JBoss EAP, Fuse, Messaging, Single Sign-On, and API Management. The training also includes soft skills development, issue debugging, and troubleshooting, along with opportunities to collaborate with experienced open-source engineers on real customer challenges.
Apprentices will work closely with peers and senior engineers to troubleshoot issues, and will have the opportunity to write and improve code, develop patches, and deliver technical solutions. They will also contribute to product enhancements and participate in enterprise and upstream community initiatives. This role offers a valuable opportunity to grow in a fast-paced, innovative environment and develop a strong foundation in enterprise open-source technologies.
What will you do
Perform basic investigation and troubleshooting of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform product and additional layered products to find resolutions for technical issues
Gather information for each bug and provide analysis to fully understand the issue
Propose and discuss fixes or workarounds and provide advice to educate customers
Collaborate with engineering, product management, and support management teams to prioritize customer requests
Incorporate your findings to Red Hat's knowledge base
Support Red Hat's global customers on technical issues through phone, chat, or remote access tools.
What will you bring
Must have graduated within the last year with a bachelor's degree in engineering, technology (computer science or IT), science, or computer applications, or a master's degree in computer applications or marketing and communications with overall 70% marks in engineering.
Very clear and effective English communications skills (Verbal & Written).
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate courteously and present ideas in a user-friendly way and work in a collaborative environment.
Self-motivated and comfortable working within a team.
Must have strong troubleshooting/debugging skills and a passion for problem solving and investigation.
An ability and willingness to learn new open source middleware technologies.
A solid understanding of core Java programming language, its API's & popular Java EE(JSP, Servlet) frameworks is mandatory.
Good knowledge on one or more JEE/Application Server technologies such as-
JSP, Servlet , JMS, Web Services, JDBC, Datasources, Connection Pool, JCA, JTA, Hibernate, JSF will be given preference.
Practical hands-on with HTML, CSS, Javascript would be an advantage.
Oracle Certified Associate (Java SE Programmer) , Oracle Certified Professional (Java SE Developer) candidates would have an advantage.
Good to have
Red Hat OpenShift Administration Certified , Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) are considered good to have.
Candidates having Red Hat Certified JBoss Administrator (RHCJA) would have an added advantage.
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is a plus.
Hands-on experience with Web and Application server technologies – Apache HTTPD, JBoss, WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat.
Familiarity with AWS, Azure, docker, kubernetes, Git, Maven would be good to have.
Open source community contribution through projects will have an added advantage.
