Job Description:

The Financial Engineer will join an experienced and dynamic team that builds and manages quantitative investment strategies of exchange traded funds (ETF), alternative mutual funds, mutual funds and institutional mandates at BMO Global Asset Management. The Financial Engineer’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, research, develop and build up models and applications for portfolio managers. A successful candidate should have previous financial engineering experience in either sell side capital markets or buy side firms.

Accountabilities:

Model and application development

  • Act as the subject matter expert of pricing models and analysis around it. Requires candidates to have expertise knowledge on all financial instruments and markets.
  • Build up tools of pricing, Greeks and P&L attribution.
  • Build up tools and applications for portfolio manager to streamline day to day portfolio management workflows.
  • Research and build up advance analysis on portfolio performance and insight.
  • Demonstrates strong modelling skills in enhancement of current framework and innovation of new solutions.
  • Demonstrates strong emphasis in risk monitor and risk management within the context of portfolio management.
  • Support broader ETF and structured solutions team by designing and building up tools and applications across the board.
  • Continuously improving the operational efficiencies of the PM/Trading process

Maintain and optimize existing quantitative investment platform

  • Maintain existing quantitative investment platform including data base, scripts, portfolio optimization and performance attribution process and report
  • Optimize existing process for efficiency and better performance
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to enhance existing analytics and build out new advanced analytics

Investment Research

  • Provide investment analysis to the portfolio management
  • Provide investment analysis on new product launches and existing products
  • Assistant in the development and implement new quantitative investment strategies
  • Implement model enhancement and new models in existing platform
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Join a culture that continuously looks to mitigate operational risk

Conducts investment research to support portfolio and business objectives, including researching managers and/or performing fundamental, quantitative, or credit research that supports portfolio management and the development of new investment strategies. Works closely with Portfolio Managers and the portfolio management team to capture research in the portfolio management process.

  • Become a subject matter expert of financial engineering
  • The role has significant influence with the portfolio manager, who is the decision making authority on trade execution and portfolio construction
  • Accountable for the day-to-day portfolio management workflow under their responsibility
  • Accountable for designing and developing the best in practice desk workflow tools and analytics tools.
  • Accountable for minimizing operational risk.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Part of a team that manages over $70billion CAD in AUM across 100 plus mandates including ETFs, mutual funds, institutional segregated funds and overlay strategies
  • Individual trade decisions, potentially spanning several investment styles, have a monetary impact from $1 million to greater than $100 million per trade
  • Investment performance has a meaningful impact of LoB reputation and thereby influences the ability of the organization to achieve its growth and profit goals

Knowledge:

  • University graduate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any Science degree and have a post graduate degree
  • A minimum10 years of financial engineer experience
  • Expert level programming skills
  • Expert level asset valuation knowledge
  • Excellent working knowledge of global financial markets, products, and investment strategies

Salary:

$117,600.00 - $218,400.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
