The Arch Warranty & Lender Solutions Division in Kansas City is seeking an Underwriter to join their underwriting team.  The Underwriter will report directly to Vice President, Underwriting.  This person will be responsible for providing underwriting support for the division, primarily working with and underwriting Lender Placed Insurance products such as Mortgage Hazard, Auto Collateral Protection, Blanket(VSI), and Flood Insurance.  In addition, they will have exposure to and provide support for various Debt Protection and Service Contract products.  The Underwriter will develop and maintain relationships with third party administrators and agents.  This person will be able to understand and communicate necessary product and service information to our clients. This role will require successful execution of risk analysis, service timeliness, personal accountability and team work.  This individual must demonstrate the ability to effectively evaluate risk for approval including alignment with strategies, underwriting guidance, and processes & procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Determine the desirability of business risks. Price exposures in accordance with filed and approved rate levels and business unit guidelines.
  • Solicit and review new and existing account information required to evaluate a risk.
  • Underwrite and prepare proposals within authority and with necessary input of Arch/Lender Products team.
  • Ensures underwriting and servicing of risks is both timely and accurate adhering to all Arch underwriting / compliance guidelines, service standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure underwriting files for business written are complete with all required documentation including pricing models, underwriting notes and product risk assessment documents.
  • Orchestrate all post bind activities including policy issuance, compliance issues, audits, and other related activities.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to obtain supplemental underwriting information, evaluate risks, analyze and interpret coverage, explain underwriting requirements and expectations, and present terms.
  • Regularly interfaces with customers to provide service and to keep abreast of customer issues.
  • Owning Agent relationships and assisting the other underwriters in their day-to-day responsibilities as required by running portfolio reports, reviewing loss projections and other ad-hoc projects clearly identifying exceptions, issues or areas of focus.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and have a competent understanding of the program and account performance.
  • Will work with other departments, including but not limited to Underwriting Operations, Policy Issuance, Claims, Actuary, Compliance and Accounting.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Background and knowledge of lender placed products such as Mortgage Hazard, Blanket, Auto CPI, and Flood  
  • High computer literacy and able to demonstrate advanced Excel skills
  • CPCU, AINS, ARe or other insurance designation a plus

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in accounting, finance, or business management preferred
