Scope of work

Accountable for the coordination, availability, daily management and functioning of equipment, materials, and instruments utilizing critical thinking skills for surgical procedures. Coordinates education for end users on equipment functioning and processing. Collaborates with surgical clinical experts and other interfacing departments to ensure that efficiency and safety are maintained in the surgical department. Ability to assist in the operation of surgical equipment including, but not limited to lasers, stealth, phaco, robots, etc.

  • Collaborate with surgeons, product vendors, other surgical sites, Supply Chain and Sterile Processing to coordinate and ensure all equipment, materials and instruments are available and ready for use.
  • Coordinate and assist with training and education on new equipment and instruments, and trouble shoot to ensure patient safety.
  • Assist with the on boarding of new providers by building preference cards and identifying their instrument and equipment needs.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs for equipment and routine infrastructure repair and replacement utilizing the capital road map process. Maintain knowledge of current and prospective surgery products and equipment, organize trials, collect evaluations and make recommendations for changes in
    products or equipment.
  • Aggressively seek and recommend cost savings possibilities based on new sources, substitutions, improved systems or new technology. Coordinate the ordering/purchasing of approved specialty/non stock items for surgical procedures in collaboration with other team members. Investigate alternative sources for items that have been discontinued and/or back ordered in coordination with clinical team members and Supply Chain. Provide clinical expertise and serve as a liaison between physicians and the Value Analysis Team.
  • Work collaboratively across the system to identity opportunities for standardization of products in the department and across the organization.
  • Build and maintain surgeon preference cards. Ensure the correct preference card is chosen for the procedure and surgeon.
  • Input and maintain tracking of implantable supplies and tissue in accordance with accrediting agencies.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Preferably in business, operations, nursing or other related healthcare area
  • Four years of related experience Required
  • Basic Life Support Cert required upon hire
