About ThedaCare!

Summary :

The Infection Prevention Practitioner, under the direction of the infection prevention manager and infection control committee, coordinates the infection prevention program. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, and OSHA standards and state regulations. Investigates outbreaks and provides support to the infection prevention and control program with the goal of preventing and controlling the spread of infections.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates an annual plan for infection surveillance prevention, and control activities based on the annual facility risk assessment in accordance with state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Collects, analyzes, and disseminates surveillance data, and reports to appropriate committees, departments, team members, and external agencies using standardized methodology and defined criteria.

  • Identifies, institutes, and evaluates clusters of infections and potential outbreaks.

  • Develops, maintains, and enforces evidence-based infection prevention and control policies and protocols in accordance with regulatory, government, and accrediting/licensing agency requirements, and recommendations of relevant professional organizations.

  • Assists ThedaCare in evaluating and maintaining readiness for state, federal and accrediting agency surveys.

  • Investigates exposures to communicable disease, initiates appropriate measures to prevent the transmission of disease, and provides reports within stated-required timeframes to appropriate local, state, or federal agencies.

  • Provides consultation services relating to infection prevention and control to the various departments and committees at ThedaCare.

  • Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement activities designed to prevent or control infections.

  • Develops and provides education and educational materials on hand hygiene, aseptic technique, infection prevention and control strategies, antiseptics and disinfectants, specific infectious diseases, and other infection control and prevention related health care issues, as needed, for team members, patients, and visitors.

  • Evaluates infection risks associated with renovation and construction projects, identifies control measures, and validates processes are in place to mitigate infection risks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, microbiology, public health, medical technology, or related field

  • Related license or certification

  • Three years of experience in clinical/patient care services or relevant health care position

  • CIC certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology within three years of employment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the facility

  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers
