We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding and a thorough understanding of HL7 segments. This role demands an elevated level of proficiency with 3M/360 Encompass and Epic coding workflows, excellent communication skills, and exceptional follow-up abilities. This role is crucial to our Clinical Documentation Integration. We work with the HIM operational team and the Clinicians to provide the best documentation of the patients in our care. A caregiver in this position works Days + Calls, from 8:00am—5:00pm.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provides application, technical and preventative maintenance support for multiple end-user systems.
  • Contributes to departmental projects and solutions implementation.
  • Demonstrates, through output, a solid understanding of networking and distributed computing environment concepts and principles of client/server configuration.
  • Supports development of information system requirements to include process and documentation creation and maintenance.
  • Maintains user confidence.
  • Protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains high level of quality work in a stressful environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
  • High School diploma/GED and three years of experience may substitute the degree requirement. 
  • Bachelor’s degree may substitute the experience requirement.

Certifications:

  • Microsoft, CompTIA, or equivalent preferred.
  • For Information Technology Division caregivers, ITIL Foundations certification is required within 6 months of position start date.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • One year of implementation, support and management of computer-based information systems experience preferably in a health care environment, or equivalent experience in end user training or in an operational or financial role utilizing the systems or data generated by the systems supported by this position required.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment  preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment. 
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
