About the unit

The Postpartum Unit at Butterworth Hospital is a secure unit with 20 private beds on each that specialize in Women and Infant Services,  specifically postpartum care of Mother Baby couplets, after labor and delivery.

With nearly 8,000 births here per year, the excellent care provided by the many members of our Nursing and Support Team within Postpartum, provides team members and patients with memories that last a lifetime.  We're here to guide parents through this transitional period, offering assistance, education, and support every step of the way.  We even have Lactation Peer Counselors and Consultants available during your inpatient stay and a lactation warmline for continued assistance.

Scope of work

This role requires strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.  At least 1 prior year of direct patient care experience in a hospital or clinic setting is strongly preferred.

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.  Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, support during circumcisions, some lab pokes on newborns, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required reporting and documentation on newborns is performed in a highly accurate and timely manner.

Orientation and Schedule

This will require daytime orientation before phasing into night shift.

The length of orientation is individualized to the employee.  We use standardized tools to determine when an individual is ready to come off of orientation.

This unit requires some flexibility with nights you'd be available, to support the needs of the patients and the team.
