Registered Nurse (RN) First Assistant – OR General

The Department of General and Specialized Surgery evaluates and treats common and complex conditions affecting the abdomen, gastrointestinal system, and breasts. Our experienced caregivers are skilled in minimally invasive methods, including robotic-assisted surgery and laparoscopic surgery.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 6:30am – 4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist in the provision of surgical nursing care and treatment to a specified group of patients.
Assess patient pre- and post-operatively from phase II anesthesia recovery through discharge.
Perform initial and ongoing nursing assessments.
Establish a coordinated plan of care in collaboration with the health care team.
Monitor progress of hospitalized patients and assist with discharge planning.
Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
Focus on cost-effective ways to maximize wellness, prevent illness, disability and disease.
Function as a RN-first assist in tissue handling, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing, providing hemostasis and closing tissue and skin in operative setting.
Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of a Registered Nurse First Assist course.
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
Two years of current clinical experience in the operating room or perioperative area.
