The Center for Global Business is looking for three Research Associates with extensive backgrounds in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or both to assist with its global outreach.
The Research Associates are collectively responsible for the design, development, and deployment of an internally owned automated system that supports large-scale data collection, organization, and outreach operations.
The system will be an internally developed automation platform intended to systematically identify, organize, and maintain publicly available contact and affiliation data of relevant individuals. The system must function as a reliable, extensible foundation for outreach initiatives while remaining institutionally controlled and adaptable over time.
Autonomous execution of data collection routines that gather publicly available information from multiple online sources according to configurable criteria.
Configurable data models allowing administrators to add, remove, or modify data fields and classification logic without restructuring the system.
Secure, structured data storage supporting efficient querying, updating, and long-term maintenance, with clear access controls and data integrity safeguards.
Automated data-cleaning processes, including deduplication, validation, and periodic refresh to maintain accuracy over time.
Support for record segmentation and prioritization based on customizable attributes aligned with outreach objectives.
Logging, auditing, and monitoring mechanisms to track system activity, detect failures, and support iterative optimization. Modular architecture that supports pilot deployment, controlled testing, scaling, and future feature expansion.
The position requires senior-level technical judgment, independent problem-solving ability, and the capacity to build systems that operate reliably with minimal manual intervention.
Advanced programming expertise in one or more high-level languages suitable for automation and systems development (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or equivalent), with the ability to write, test, and deploy production-ready code.
Formal training or demonstrated senior-level experience in computer science or software engineering, including system architecture, data structures, algorithms, and database design.
Proven experience building fully automated data pipelines, including collection of publicly available information, data normalization, deduplication, and structured storage.
Strong experience with scalable system design, including task scheduling, process automation, error handling, logging, and performance monitoring.
Ability to design systems that support structured outreach workflows, enabling segmentation, prioritization, and performance evaluation without reliance on third-party core platforms.
Experience with Social and digital media applications for product marketing and promotion.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 9 credit hours.
