Job Description

Reporting to the Unit Supervisor CIS, implements strategies coordinating medical record processes and systems for internal and external clients in order to support a complete and accurate medical record to be used for patient care and to meet internal and external regulations.  Facilitates the integrity of the Master Patient Index.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make Jefferson the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees.
  • Completes chart analysis of patient records for physician deficiencies to assist the medical staff with a complete record for patient care, release of information and reimbursement.
  • Identifies and faxes appropriate documentation to physician offices for continued patient care and follow up.
  • Retrieves discharge records from nursing units and reconciles against registration discharge list to facilitate a complete medical record for efficient multifaceted functions such as medical staff chart completion, coding reimbursement, research, administrative decisions and ongoing patient care.
  • Monitors status of dictated reports; edits transcription or notifies physician to facilitate efficient patient care decisions for efficient and effective patient care.
  • Utilizes computer systems for chart analysis, modifications of reports, patient information searches, chart audit tracking, monitoring incomplete status and general communication.
  • Assists with procedure of providing a unique hospital patient identifier to assure the integrity of the Master Patient Index.
  • Completes various assignments involving communication with physicians, nursing and other internal and external clients, confidentiality policy and procedures and release of information, processing of medical records in accordance with internal and external standards and regulations in order to facilitate efficient patient care decisions for efficient and effective patient care.
  • Fill-in for receptionist on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education - Required

  • High School Diploma/GED

Education - Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree or
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience - Required

  • 1 year healthcare environment experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Required

  • Demonstrates above average organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask.
  • Is available to work independently. .
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills required
