POSITION SUMMARY 

 

The Planner at Five Below is crucial in ensuring a retail business’s success. As a Planner, you will work with the retail team to analyze, forecast, and plan the merchandise for the business. The Planner is a critical role that helps a retail business to plan and manage its merchandise effectively, ensuring the right products are available to customers at the right time and the right price.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Collaborate with the Buying team to understand customer trends and preferences. 

  • Use data analysis tools and software to assess sales trends and customer demand. 

  • Develop and maintain product assortment plans based on sales data, customer demand, and financial goals. 

  • Create and monitor sales forecasts for individual products and categories. 

  • Collaborate with the allocation and replenishment teams to optimize inventory levels and ensure products are available for customers. 

  • Track and analyze product performance to identify opportunities for improvement or adjustments to the assortment plan. 

  • Prepare regular reports on sales performance, inventory levels, and other key metrics. 

  • Support the buying team with product pricing and promotional strategies. 

  • Provide input on new product launches and seasonal merchandise planning. 

  • Stay informed about industry trends and the competitive landscape to inform assortment planning. 

  • Forecasting Abilities: 

  • Develop accurate sales forecasts based on historical data, market trends, and other relevant factors. Strong understanding of demand patterns and anticipate changes to optimize inventory levels. Comfortable working with databases and extracting insights from large datasets to support decision-making. Sales $50M= $200M 

  • Inventory Management: 

  • Planners need to monitor inventory levels, analyze sell-through rates, and implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover while minimizing excess stock. 

  • Seasonal vs replenishment - greater than 50% replenishment 

  • Assortment Planning: 

  • Support the merchandising process by providing assortment plans including breadth and depth targets to meet financial plans taking into account variations in demand by store volume and regional preferences. 

  • Count of items 500 - 1500 

  • Adaptability and Flexibility: 

  • Given the rapid rate of changes both internally and externally, Planners should be adaptable and flexible, able to adjust plans quickly in response to emerging trends or unexpected events to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Retail Merchandising, or a related field. 

  • Previous experience in retail Planning, Buying, or Merchandise Analysis. 

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions. 

  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, or other software. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. 

  • Knowledge of retail math and financial concepts. 

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams. 

  • Retail industry knowledge and understanding of customer behavior and preferences. 

  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic retail environment. 

  • Must be Philadelphia-based or willing to relocate.
