Machine Simulation

You’ll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees.  The Machine Simulation Track focuses on supporting the development, integration & enhancement of machine performance simulation, autonomy, & electrification tools & process for Caterpillar product development. This includes providing primary L6(machine) analysis support to build robust processes for deployment to a product group to close gaps in their machine simulation capabilities. Job responsibilities involve integration of in-house and external software tools that represent the machine, earthen material, and operator. These models are combined into full machine models to simulate realistic field operations for the purpose of evaluating, understanding trade-offs, and influencing new machine designs for product development programs.

Degree Requirements:

  • A MS degree in a relevant field (Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering)

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 (no rounding) at current institution
  • Programming skills (C++, Python)
  • Previous technical internship/co-op or relevant experience, preferably in Multibody Dynamics, Autonomy, & Controls
  • Expected graduation date January 2024 - August 2025
  • Must be willing to travel and relocate domestically.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of robust design and optimization
  • Background and interest in physics-based analysis of systems and components
  • Knowledge & experience in Machine Learning
  • Knowledge & experience in Autonomy & Computer Vision
  • Knowledge & experience in Discrete Event Simulation
  • Ability to write efficient, well-documented code in Python
  • Experience with the operation, design, and/or testing of heavy machinery equipment Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to perform complex assignments
  • Leadership experience

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
