Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Do you enjoy developing, deploying and handling complex production environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain optimal application performance? As a Staff Software Engineer, you are responsible for translating requirements into technical solutions with the focus of creating the best user experience for our associates and customers. You will be part of a project team consisting of other data scientists and engineers who will work together to deliver & deploy ML models at scale, business value and ensure code quality. Communication is also key as you will need to work closely with product owners, designers, and other data scientists & engineers.

About Team: 
This position is in the data science & engineering team called RiskTech under the Enterprise Business Services organisation. Enterprise areas of Walmart like Finance, Indirect Procurement, People Systems and others are in the midst of massive digital transformation.

Our team is building products for these areas from scratch, dealing with challenges from gathering user data, developing machine learning models to understand business processes better and making them more holistically data driven and intelligent. Automated Forecasting, Anomaly Detection, Object Detection and Segmentation, ChatBots, Optimisation are only some of the areas we are actively working on. We leverage machine learning, natural language processing (NLP) and big data technologies to get the scale and precision required for solving these problems. We are also working on some cutting edge deep learning and computer vision technologies to solve some of the business critical problems.



What you'll do:

As a Staff Software Engineer (MLE) for Walmart, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Drive data-derived insights across a wide range of divisions by developing advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms and computational algorithms based on business initiatives
  • Direct the gathering of data, assessing data validity and synthesizing data into large analytics datasets to support project goals
  • Build scalable and reusable components & productionize the solution by deploying an end-to-end pipeline for ML Solution
  • Build and maintain end to end scalable and optimized Machine Learning pipelines
  • Communicate recommendations to business partners and influencing future plans based on insights
  • Take ownership of achieving complete automation with design for Vision solution with good level of comfort with shell, API design, queuing, Advanced SQL / NoSQL concepts.
  • Utilize big data analytics and advanced MLOPs data science techniques to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies in data.
  • Enhance the performance of applications while identifying and addressing bottlenecks from the standpoint of both web applications and machine learning models.
  • Apply your computer vision and forecasting expertise where required
  • Build and train statistical models and machine learning algorithms

What you'll bring:

  • General understanding of software development lifecycle from planning to deployment
  • Good understanding of GIT, MLOPs, CI-CD automation, advanced concepts and containerisation in Kubernetes
  • Exposure to any cloud computing services (preferably Azure / Google)
  • Familiarity with Jenkins for CI and airflow for job orchestration
  • Good understanding of Data Lake/warehouse integration with the systems
  • Extensive knowledge and exposure in application security and security protocols & identifying vulnerabilities.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing & network security.
  • Working experience with multithreading, data structures, algorithms and design patterns
  • High-level proficiency in developing REST APIs using Node.js & Spring boot
  • High-level proficiency in using the following technologies to build modern mobile app experiences: JavaScript, Typescript, React, ReactNative, HTML, and CSS/SASS
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies GCP or Azure, and  knowledge on RDBMS, CosmosDB and CI/CD
  • Experience with message queues - Kafka, Azure Service bus
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and knowledge of Accessibility design principles.
  • Experience on unit testing frameworks (Junit, Jest, Enzyme, React Testing Library, etc) and code quality control platforms like Sonar 
  • Experience with Figma and experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, willingness to learn new and emerging technologies
  • A disciplined approach to development, code review, testing, documentation, and code structure in a team environment. 
  •  A constant desire to improve, learn more, and take things to the next level, and a passion for adopting the latest features in the technologies that we leverage. 
  • Exposure to Triton / TFServe Inference and ability to design model monitoring framework with the best ML and Engg principles such as canary deployment, rollback and roll-forward strategy, drift detection, automated model training gates.
  • Highly comfortable in writing and reviewing python programs, NumPy and Pandas in Jupiter for prototyping.
  • Good understand of permission, authentication and security of the solution with privacy related best practices in web-services.
  • Working understanding of Object Detection, Object-segmentation and Tracking models and its challenges.
  • Be comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty and the eagerness to change the world in a huge way by being a self-motivated learner and builder
