Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) sector has an opening for a Platform Vehicle Lead (Manager 3) for a new program within Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2), a sub-IPT within the of the Global Surveillance Division part of the Aeronautics Sector. This role is located in Melbourne, Florida and is fully onsite with no remote work available.
Job Summary: The Vehicle Lead will report to the Chief Engineer, support the Program Manager, and lead a cross-disciplinary Vehicle Engineering (VE) team inside the Air Vehicle IPT responsible for the development and integration of the Air Vehicle design. This role will work within the program IPT structure to perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. The role will have a key role in working with major suppliers for airframe manufacturing and design and will have technical oversight of all vehicle engineering (VE) activities ensuring that the program is adhering to sound principles in the development, production, test and sustainment of products. The VE lead will ensure work products are thorough, of a high quality, and are compliant with project contract requirements and NGAS processes and procedures.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees to work with the cross-function engineering team.
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements / drawings into requirement and drawing systems to control the vehicle configuration.
Acts as the key approver for program and technical review boards representing Vehicle Engineering requirements, highlighting impacts and risk to the Vehicle scope of work.
Understands the application and development of functional and physical architectures, interfaces, and requirements in large systems, using SysML/UML and the linkage with the drawing environment to set a technical baseline
Overall execution, staffing, performance (cost, schedule, and technical), and reporting (technical and program).
Develop VE metrics to support program and technical status (staffing, technical, supplier)
Working in conjunction with the Chief Engineers and Program managers to support a robust Risk and opportunity program, provide Vehicle risk, and impacts and work planning and mitigation with the vehicle team.
Work with all Vehicle supplier responsible REs to understand supplier impacts to plan
Serve as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) and oversee all VE CAMS to support the IPT Program Manager, ensuring proper planning and execution within an established cost and schedule baseline.
Generate Basis of Estimates (BOEs) in support of future proposal efforts and coordinate approval and associated reviews
Coordination and management of resources requirements with VE area Leads in support of program execution based on the detail plan
Coordination with downstream disciplines such as procurement and manufacturing.
Strategic planning for future program phases for Vehicle areas
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience
Experience working air vehicle development, integration, and test (preferably in a Digital Engineering Environment)
Prior leadership experience with ability to lead cross functional Vehicle Engineering team in technical decision making
Experience in managing a program or team, setting & operating to objectives & providing guidance to subordinates based on goals, objectives & company policy
Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret clearance (Interim TS required to start)
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance and obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top Secret clearance any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
Current DoD Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
Experience in technical planning, risk management, and project performance addressing cost, schedule, and technical quality
Experience in SOW / CDRL decomposition and program traceability for VE products
Experience with the Engineering Design Process for design event (such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR, FCA, or PCA using IEEE, DoD or other standard)
CAM/EVMS experience
Experience with aircraft subsystem development, with requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration and test and verification for advance aircraft.
Experience in developing and managing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements on a large system development-type contract or full responsibility for all aspects of program performance on a large contract
Demonstrated experience in managing and technical development of Aircraft programs
