Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist are responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of test, and communicating results to providers
Reports to: Supervisor, Medical Laboratory
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Performs high complexity tests as directed by the Laboratory Director, including operating equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis
• Test patient specimens, establishing and ensuring acceptable levels of quality control are maintained; determine suitability of specimens and ensure correct patient identity throughout the testing process
• Recognize and investigate unexpected, uncontrolled, and unacceptable results
Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and correct problems when possible; document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
• Ensure requirement of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed
• Ensure equipment is operational by performing equipment maintenance, calibrating, and troubleshooting
• All other duties assigned related to the medical laboratory
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or closely related degree

Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated understanding of correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the test ordered
• Proficient use of computer peripherals
• Clear communicator; Speak, read, and write English fluently
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments
Physical Capabilities
The job duties of this role involve standing for long periods of time and frequent stooping, lifting, sitting, reaching, bending, and kneeling, and engaging in tasks that require near visual and color acuity.
Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals
