Job Description Summary

The Chief Engineer is a member of the Wind Engineering Vice President’s Leadership Team. The role leads a global team of technical experts supporting New Technology Introduction, New Product Introduction, Fleet Support, and related areas for the Wind Engineering organization. In this capacity, you will drive the organizational strategy for the technical community, ensure the most complex technical challenges and opportunities have the right technical resources & approach, and directly influence the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Technology of our products.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Overall leadership for Product Safety. Drive standards to improve Product Safety including safety by design, human factors, and functional safety. Drive rigor in resolving safety concerns and connecting lessons learned back into design practices/methods. Ensure proper operating rhythms and rigor in SPMTs and PSRB.
  • Responsible for governance, rigor, and approval of Engineering Design Practices and Design Methods to ensure quality, high-performing products. Determine most critical, impactful updates and partner with leadership team to prioritize
  • Drive design review rigor to ensure that technical risks are identified, clearly communicated, and appropriately mitigated with focus on safety & product quality
  • Own the controlled title holder policy for Wind, the competency matrix for Controlled Title Holders and the Controlled Title Holder pipeline.
  • Drive the engineering Design Boards – ensure that teams are focused on the most critical areas and have the right operating rigor. Develop a plan on how Design Boards should work, leveraging lessons learned from other GE businesses, including how to lead and resource them with both Controlled Title Holders and other engineers in the team
  • Ensure Chief Engineering Office is engaged with the Subsystem Engineering teams on RCA’s providing technical expertise and urgency for our most complex technical challenges
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including Quality, Supplier Quality, and Lean teams to drive step-change improvement in product quality
  • Role model identifying, quantifying, and mitigating technical risk. Mentor and coach the broader technical community in this area
  • Assist with strategic thought-leadership on how to improve customer outcomes including Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Technology while balancing design cycles, processes, and technical rigor
  • Provide direct leadership to a global team of technical experts including setting priorities, collaborating on challenges, providing feedback, and supporting individual development

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Extensive relevant engineering experience
  • Significant relevant leadership experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time

  • Lean mindset – able to drive process improvement, standard work, etc.
  • Excellent communicator with demonstrated ability to connect positively with others
  • Deep and broad wind turbine expertise. Strong experience with successful NPI development, NTI development, and positively impacting the business with technical outcomes
  • Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering or related discipline

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $204,000 and $306,000 USD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
