bp Technical Solutions India (TSI) center in Pune, strives to build on bp’s existing engineering and technical strengths to deliver high-quality services to its hydrocarbons and new energy businesses worldwide. TSI brings together diverse engineering capabilities to provide technical services across a range of areas including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects and subsurface, to deliver safe, affordable and lower emission energy, while continuously innovating how we work.

Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritized business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.

About early careers

Your talent. Your skills. Your big ideas (and even bigger dreams). We know you have a lot to give. So, we’ll make sure you get a lot in return. From next-level experiences to global impact. From inspiring teammates to exceptional support – we offer graduate and internship roles across multiple areas.

Our internships

Make an impact on cutting-edge projects. Help find solutions to complex challenges. Be part of a company that invests in you and your growth. You can do it all as an intern at bp. Our 10-week summer programme gives you the opportunity to build your technical knowledge, develop key skills and learn more about life at bp. You'll be part of one team throughout your internship, supported by a dedicated line manager and buddy. There’ll be opportunities to connect with other interns, take part in training, and grow your network across the business.

One Subsurface internship programme - Petrophysics

One Subsurface is an early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse professional engineers who are high-performers, have broad discipline experience, a transferable skills-set and solving the most complex problems of today and of the future.

As a Petrophysics intern joining our multi-disciplinary and multicultural subsurface teams, you’ll work on our global exploration program, new field developments or on a producing asset - all dynamic, collaborative environments. You’ll interact with geoscientists; reservoir, petroleum and drilling engineers; as well as commercial and other disciplines to turn your evaluations into business decisions and actions.

Displaying bp’s core beliefs you’ll become part of an organization committed to a diverse, energetic and inclusive culture that thrives on open, transparent and constructive feedback. You’ll have good numeracy skills, be dedicated, enthusiastic, and committed. To succeed, you’ll need a passion to support the energy transition, a willingness to learn, and a determination to excel and deliver results.

Petrophysicists play a crucial role in our efforts to produce enough oil and gas to help satisfy the world’s growing demand for energy. They define the volume and distribution of oil and gas in our reservoirs, as well as their flow characteristics. They investigate the properties of reservoir rocks, defining their porosity, permeability, and how reservoir fluids interact with the reservoir matrix. This involves the integration of direct measurements of reservoir properties (from core and fluid samples extracted from the reservoir) with sophisticated indirect measurements made by logging tools lowered into boreholes. These tools measure the nuclear, electrical, and acoustic response of rocks and the integrated results are used to predict the volume and distribution of the hydrocarbons and optimize the methods of extraction.

Role and responsibilities

The precise nature of your internship role and project will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business but your responsibilities include:

  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions

  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company

  • Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence

  • Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety

During your internship you’ll get continuous feedback and guidance on how to plan and deliver your project, along with advice on what to look for and who to talk to. You’ll also be encouraged, individually and together with your intern peer group to find out as much as possible about other teams, disciplines and operations to broaden your understanding of the bp business. This is an assessed internship and may serve as a pathway to the 2028 graduate programme, subject to business needs at the time.

Requirements

  • Be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Petrophysics, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science or similar discipline

  • Maintain a CGPA of 7 & above

  • Should be class of 2028 and be eligible for a 10-week internship between May to July 2027

  • Have a willingness to learn, a passion to excel and deliver results

  • In addition, demonstrable data science skills would be advantageous for any geoscience candidate applying for a role in bp. Specifically, proficiency in using statistical methods to interrogate large datasets for geological insight, and in the application of using scripting languages such as Python and R, and development environments such as Jupyter and Rstudio.
