Our Visual Field Technicians participate in delivering patient care effectively and receive and prepare patients for visual field testing. Cole Eye Institute is among the world’s most advanced eye centers. Our retina team has some of the best clinical outcomes in the field and is passionate about leading the way in research and innovation for retinal diseases. 

A caregiver in this position works 7:30am to 4:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform routine screening tests, such as vision and glasses checks.  
  • Check visual acuity and read current glasses prescription. 
  • Record data in patient records, enter patient information into the automated visual field machine, and perform proper visual field tests as indicated by ordering physician. 
  • Receive and prepare patients for exams or treatment to be performed by administering dilation drops after visual field testing is completed (if indicated by ordering physician). 
  • Perform various clerical functions, including ensuring that the ordering physician has signed the appropriate testing order prior to performing the test and that the charge is captured correctly after the test is completed. 
  • Maintain the physical environment of exam and procedure rooms by cleaning and stocking daily, assisting and maintaining appropriate supply of medications as needed and conducting basic maintenance.  
  • Assist with ordering medical/office supplies. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma/GED  
  • One year of experience in a medical environment with direct patient care contact or customer service experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Formal education or training in ophthalmology. This may substitute some of or all the required experience
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role; prior experience in a healthcare setting in a patient-facing role preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment utilized to perform testing procedures.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, good eye-hand coordination to perform various tests.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
