Job Purpose
Responsible for complex actuarial projects and processes in product development, financial modeling, financial reporting, risk analysis, or data analysis, as applicable. Performs the highest-level activities related to the application of advanced actuarial principles for insurance/finance. Leads teams in the successful completion of work associated with the development of actuarial models, databases, and methodologies. Responsible for all aspects of VA/RILA statutory modeling and reporting under VM-21, C-3 Phase II, and NY Regulation 213.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Manages a larger team or multiple small teams:
Provides mentorship to staff on technical topics, processes, and the control environment.
Oversees the responsibilities of the team, assisting in setting priorities, assigning tasks and tracking progress.
Supports the management of problem resolution and breaking down barriers.
Manages the performance of direct reports by developing leadership skills, setting expectations, and providing feedback.
Advises on resource deployment and succession planning.
Leads cross-functional and cross-departmental team meetings, meetings with senior management, and meetings with external parties.
Communicates with actuarial associates at all levels, cross-departmental associates at all levels, and external parties, orally and in writing.
Composes reports and presentations for senior management.
Provides senior manager level review of proposed actuarial methodology changes, new product implementations, and the work product of project teams.
Directs processes for production of actuarial output, such as calculated reserves, cash flow projections, product pricing, experience data, etc.
Drives initiatives for improving methods and procedures, as necessary, to increase efficiency and improve controls.
Leads cross-functional and cross-departmental projects, creating project plans and assigning tasks.
Finds issues, proposes solutions, identifies and secures resources to resolve.
Directs the identification of risks and development of mitigating controls.
Directs all aspects of VA/RILA statutory modeling and reporting under VM-21, C-3 Phase II, and NY Regulation 213.
Production of monthly, quarterly, and annual VA/RILA statutory reserves and required capital, including execution of the Model Audit Rule control framework over the processes.
Production of the VM-31 PBR Actuarial Report.
Serves as VA/RILA statutory model owner
