SUMMARY

The Windows System Engineer will join a group of IT professionals focusing on technology such as servers, operating systems, databases, web application servers and local area, wide area and wireless networks. JOANN utilizes industry-leading technology from enterprise vendors including Microsoft, IBM, HP, Dell, Google and Cisco along with proven open-source solutions. This position should have core values and operating principles of the organization, perform all aspects of Database Administration on Microsoft SQL Server and like database technologies in a Windows and Linux environment. This may include system administration, troubleshooting, analysis, testing, research, training, general problem solving, technical support, and testing/deployment of new systems. This position will work closely with other cross-functional teams to identify technical requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support.

As a team member within the IT organization, the System Engineer will contribute daily to the health and welfare of JOANN's IT systems. Through a mix of daily support and project deliverables, this position will be provided with opportunities for growth and advancement. Along with formal training, Lead and Senior team members will provide ongoing direction and mentoring. Participation in 24 x 7 on-call support rotation is expected for this position. Responsibilities extend to the Store Support Center (SSC), 4 distribution centers and multi-channel retail practices through over 800 stores. The total user environment consists of over 18,000 team members.

JOB DUTIES

  • Systems and Applications Design:
    • Designs solutions which satisfy requirements. Ensures technical solution designs are consistent with departmental standards.
  • Systems and Applications Implementation:
    • Implements hardware and software as required in support of projects and the existing production landscape. Executes unit tests to assure high quality of deliverables.
  • Systems and Applications Testing:
    • In cooperation with other IT teams, executes end-to-end tests that ensure solution design and implementation meet or exceed the documented solution requirements.
  • Systems and Applications Support:
    • Provides support for current production systems. Resolves problems and incidents in compliance with established resolution SLAs. Determines and documents root cause of problems. Works to improve systems and processes to enforce simplicity, stability and efficiency.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business or related field

Experience Minimum: 2-4 years relevant professional experience in Windows specific environment.

Experience Preferred: 5+ years of relevant professional experience in a large retail information technology environment. Experience with Microsoft Intune.

  • Must have experience in some or all of the following: PowerShell, Batch Script, VB Script, Active Directory, SMS/SCCM/MECM, Intune, Application Packaging, Hyper-V, VDI, App-V, Group Policy, OSD/Bare Metal Deployment, PKI/Certificate Services, Windows Systems Administration, SQL and Visual Studio
