Volunteer Description:
Volunteering in the Oncology department of Primary Children's Hospital, helping caregivers, patients and families in various ways.Volunteering in the Oncology department is such a wonderful experience! As a volunteer within Oncology, you will be providing patients and families with positive experiences by playing age-appropriate games, help with craft projects, sanitize toys and other assignments that offer a safe and healing space for patients of all ages from inpatient and outpatient. Working with patients one on one to caregivers from the department, volunteers will offer support in whatever way possible through play.
We see families from all walks of life all with different backgrounds and unique health challenges. The mix of children, ages, and medical conditions is constantly changing throughout the day.
Volunteers offer an enthusiastic, caring environment while engaging children in age-appropriate games, activities, and crafts. Play helps reduce the anxiety and fear children may experience regarding clinic or hospital visits.
Each day is different, and volunteers need to be able to respond well to a variety of responsibilities and assignments in Oncology.
