The AVP, Broad Market Solutions is responsible for anticipating market needs, providing recommendations for business action, and overseeing implementation activities for John Hancock Life Insurance’s Broad Markets business. Broad Markets encompasses term insurance, living benefit combination products, and select permanent insurance products designed for mass affluent consumers.

This person will work with peers and leaders across multiple life insurance disciplines – including product management, marketing, strategy, distribution, underwriting, IT and operations – to ensure that all facets of John Hancock’s Broad Market solutions meet the need of a highly competitive brokerage market. The AVP, Broad Market Solutions will be a thought leader across the business on the technology, distribution, and product needs for this market, and a subject matter expert (SME) for internal stakeholders and external distribution partners regarding solutions in market and in development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Through a deep understanding of market dynamics, distributor needs, and John Hancock capabilities, recommend business actions that result in achieving an aggressive multi-year growth plan
  • Working closely with Operations, Underwriting and IT, lead John Hancock’s insurance efforts to streamline the purchase experience at face amounts $3M and below, which comprises more than 90% of John Hancock’s policy count.
  • Anticipate market opportunities by leveraging deep industry experience, market research, insights, and close relationships with key internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the Insurance Leadership team (including the Head of Insurance and VPs of Product Development, Market Solutions, Sales, Distribution and Underwriting) to ideate on next best investments to assure success in this market.
  • Partner with VP, Head of Business Development and Portfolio Governance and the AVP, Busineess Development in the vetting of new distribution and technology partnerships to accelerate growth in this channel
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Underwriting and Sales & Distribution leadership to uncover opportunities to increase flow of applications and placed policies, across both Broad and HNW segments.
  • Act as ILT’s liaison on major initiatives within US Segment’s book of work that pertain to Broad Markets, ensuring cross-functional teams are equipped to ensure success in market.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes that may impact the market positioning of the solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and execute go-to-market strategies for each solution, ensuring a common understanding of market opportunity, fit, and marketing and distribution strategies.
  • Provide regular reports on project status to stakeholders throughout the business, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and successes.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience delivering results across multiple functions within the life insurance brokerage industry
  • Experience in product management, product marketing, or business development highly desirable.
  • Experience leading – either directly or through influence – large cross-functional teams to deliver a shared vision.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscape within the financial services industry.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate market opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Effective prioritization and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to drive results and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • This is a hybrid role, located in Boston, requiring at least 2-3 days per week in our Boston office

Salary range is expected to be between

$148,400.00 USD - $275,500.00 USD
