The Role:

Responsibilities:
- Review customer onboarding data to ensure we’re always compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, while following Checkbook’s internal policies and procedures. This includes tasks like verifying identification and ensuring all required documentation is accurate.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and company policies, and client requirements related to Anti-Money Laundering.
- Evaluate and monitor transactional activity to identify potential suspicious activity.
- Review of OFAC alerts and appropriate disposition and escalation
- Adhere to designated timeframes and procedures to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
- Monitor customer behavior proactively, identifying any red flags or compliance issues, and recommend solutions to mitigate risks and keep operations smooth.
- Maintain up-to-date risk documentation, such as lists of high-risk countries and onboarding requirements, staying ahead of local regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Assist our Head of Compliance with daily tasks, including crafting responses to regulatory authorities, preparing presentations, and supporting compliance initiatives.
- Keep detailed internal logs, reviewing escalations in real-time and ensuring any compliance concerns are addressed promptly and accurately.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to enhance the quality and effectiveness of our AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorist Financing) framework.
- Stay on the cutting edge by participating in both internal and external programs related to AML/CFT, ensuring you're always learning and growing in your role.
- Jump in where needed, performing additional administrative tasks that help drive the success of the Risk and Compliance teams and keep our business running efficiently.
Requirements:
- Juggling priorities is your strength. You'll need to manage multiple tasks and timelines with ease, keeping everything on track while meeting deadlines.
- 1+ years of experience in Fraud and AML/CFT compliance or investigations—you're comfortable in this space and ready to take on the challenges that come with it.
- Knowledge of AML-related processes, including KYC/CDD/EDD, transaction monitoring or sanctions;
- Experience conducting investigations and filing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Thriving in ambiguity is key here—this is a fast-paced, evolving environment where being adaptable and staying cool under pressure is essential.
- Details matter. You have a sharp eye for spotting issues and the drive to get things right the first time.
- You know your stuff. A solid understanding of local laws, regulations, directives, and industry standards is a must. If you’re familiar with upcoming regulations in AML/CTF, that's even better!
- Strong communication, time management, analytical, and investigative skills are essential to thrive in this role. We’ll be looking at these abilities closely during the hiring process.
